Job Description SummaryThe Department of Computer Science at Wake Forest University is seeking applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor or Assistant Professor of the Practice position to begin July 2024. The ideal candidate should have a demonstrated potential to contribute to and expand a culture of high quality teaching within the Department and University.Job Description:
The Department is searching for candidates with demonstrated interest in computer science pedagogy, particularly around early core courses for the major. We are also interested in candidates with experience in areas tied to the practice of software development and software engineering.
Given the teaching-centric nature of the role, responsibilities are divided 80% teaching and 20% service with an expected teaching load of six courses (3+3) per academic year. Service is expected to include advising of computer science students, coordination of mechanisms for student support, and engagement on Department and College committees.
By the time of appointment, applicants should have completed a PhD in Computer Science or a closely related field or, alternatively, have completed a Masters degree in a computing-related area and have significant industry experience by the time of appointment. The particular title for the position will be Assistant Teaching Professor for those with a PhD or Assistant Professor of the Practice for those with a Masters and industry experience. The position is full-time, non-tenure track with benefits and offers renewable appointments, initially on a two year basis, and opportunities for promotion on a teaching-centered career path.
There are currently fourteen full-time faculty members, approximately 170 declared undergraduate majors, and 10 Masters-level graduate students within the Department. The Department prides itself on engaging students in and out of the classroom, providing rich opportunities for students to work closely with faculty members in a variety of settings.
