The School of Business is looking to hire a dynamic Director of Development. The Director of Development will be a front-line
fundraising professional responsible for the management of a pool of prospects composed of the School of Business’ alumni, donors,
volunteers, and community partners with the giving potential of more than $50,000.
Under the leadership of the Associate Vice
President for Development, the Director of Development will maintain a portfolio of prospects for major gift work in order to support the
fundraising goals of the School of Business.
The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to plan, execute, secure and
steward major gifts. A strong orientation to collaboration is required along with an enthusiasm for maintaining relationships with school
alumni, faculty and volunteers. A background in higher education is preferred but not required for the candidate.
This is a
promotional opportunity for current VCU employees. Therefore, it is open to current VCU applicants only.
Responsibilities:
Successfully conduct a high number of quality engagement interactions through personal visits
requiring travel, telephone and zoom solicitations, and coordinated personal written proposals in order to obtain and/or increase major gift
contributions.
Work in collaboration with the AVP for Development, VCU’s Office of Development and Alumni Relations, the School of
Business Foundation and School of Business leadership and faculty to meet or exceed fundraising goals.
Steward relationships with
donors and provide opportunities for them to stay connected to the School, and its programs.
Provide assistance to donors regarding
tax laws, policies and procedures and in resolving problems with university administrators and faculty in order to maintain a positive image
of the school.
Through effective identification and qualification, build a pipeline of qualified prospects
Work with prospect
development staff to identify prospective donors and alumni leaders;
Work with the AVP for Planned Giving to market and secure
planned gifts on behalf of the School
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
Strong collaboration, written, oral, and data-analysis skills
Demonstrated ability to execute objectives and goals aligned to the
mission of a complex, urban university and the ability to persuasively represent its goals to multiple constituents.
Familiarity with
technology, software, and digital tools to communicate and engage with others and experience with fundraising databases
Demonstrated
knowledge of the principles, ethics and practices of successful fundraising
An outgoing and positive personality, strong
interpersonal skills and a collaborative working style
Ability to work and navigate within a complex organization and diverse
constituencies
Ability to plan and execute travel for donor visits that may include overnight trips
Demonstrated experience
working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a university professional at VCU
Preferred hiring standards:
Master’s degree from an accredited institution
3-5 Years of professional
experience in front line fundraising
Demonstrated success securing six- and seven-figure gifts
Experience expanding donor and
prospect base and enlarging development footprints beyond “local” geography
CFRE certification
