Department Information USG is now accepting applications for the position of Manager-GLS with the Georgia Library Service (GLS) for the Blind and Print Disabled under the auspices of the Georgia Public Library Service (GPLS). GPLS provides administrative support to Georgia’s public libraries; develops and implements statewide policies, procedures, and programs; and encourages reading, literacy and education through the continuing support and improvement of Georgia’s public libraries. Under their umbrella, GLS, the Georgia arm of the National Library Service (NLS) for the Blind and Print Disabled serves all eligible patrons of Georgia who are certified as print disabled on a permanent or temporary basis rendering them unable to see or hold standard print booksJob Summary
Under limited supervision, the Manager-GLS is responsible for the daily operations of the Georgia Library Service–Atlanta (GLS-Atlanta), the department’s only frontline service location for the Georgia network library of the National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled (NLS). Provides training and technical assistance to staff and library patrons. Supervises and schedules GLS-Atlanta staff, including volunteers. Participates in public relations and marketing efforts to promote library service. Keeps abreast of latest rules/laws regarding services to persons with print disabilities. Studies latest trends in services and equipment delivery methods. Attends, oversees and/or participates in various professional committees, meetings, and conferences. Completes monthly statistical and narrative reports related to patron and staff activities.
Responsibilities
Required Qualifications Master’s degree (M.L.S.) or equivalent from a program accredited by the American Library Association and four years of related experience and/or training. Grade 5(b) or (d) Librarian’s Professional Graduate Certificate or a Grade 6 or 7 from the Georgia Board for the Certification of Librarians.In addition, a minimum of two (2) years of previous experience in library administrative management or two (2) years each of experience in supervising employees, in library public service, and staff training and development is required.
Preferred Qualifications Experience in a library for the print disabled. Knowledge of the laws regarding services and equipment to persons with visual and/or physical disabilities. Knowledge of issues that are important within the disability community. Knowledge of the National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled.Equal Employment Opportunity
