Summary
The Associate Director for Residence
Life is a valued member of the Housing and Residence Life Senior Leadership Team. The Associate Director is responsible for the overall
development of the residential program for approximately 4,200 undergraduate students who reside in 14 facilities. Specific responsibilities
include the direct supervision of 4 Assistant Directors and indirect supervision of approximately 10 full-time master’s level Resident
Directors, 3 Graduate Assistants and approximately 180 student employees (RAs and DSCs).
The Associate Director provides leadership
in the department and is responsible for all recruitment, selection, and training of Residence Life staff. This position has additional
responsibilities for programming budget, conduct, residential curriculum, and all living-learning programs. This position works closely with
other Student Affairs colleagues and university partners. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic, challenging, and growing
culture with the addition of new residential facilities in the future. The Associate Director is required to work some evening and weekend
hours. This position participates in the Student Affairs Professional On-Call (Tier III) rotation.

An incumbent assigned this
classification will perform some or all the following universal essential functions approximately 95 percent of their time:
Function: Administration 35% of Job
· Supervises all
aspects of the residence life program in the residence halls.
· Develops, monitors, and
evaluates residence life policies and procedures.
· Leads in selecting, training, and
evaluating 4 Assistant Directors and 10 professional Resident Directors and 3 Graduate Assistants.
· Directs all residence life committees and programs including, but not limited to training,
recruitment, in-service programs, and assessment.
· Serves as liaison for staff and
students in working and collaborating with other departments within the University with a focus on program development across the Division
of Student Affairs and throughout the university.
· Oversees the Residence Hall
Association (RHA) and National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH).
· Collects and compiles
data on programming, counseling, referral, disciplinary action, and all living-learning programs. Prepare reports on a regular
basis.
· Assists in establishing departmental short- and long-term goals and objectives,
develops learning outcomes and strategic goals for the department.
· Maintains
professional growth and the professional development of staff by participating in educational programs and professional organizations and
activities to maintain knowledge of national trends and promote leading edge expertise within the department.
· Assists in department’s assessment efforts, particularly Skyfactor reporting,
Residential Curriculum Assessment, Residential Learning Community program, Residential Faculty Mentor program, and Faculty in Residence.
· Reviews, evaluates, and refines annually all major education policies and procedures.
· Leads departmental efforts to ensure the Resident Advisor position evolves and grows to best
support the needs of our residential students.
· Ensures appropriate spending of all
residence life budgets.
· All budgets are to be balanced.
· Assists in selecting, training, supervising, and evaluating all residence life staff.
· Updates and maintains appropriate data for judicial and crisis management reports daily.
· Assists in directing weekly staff meetings for Residence Life professional staff.
· Demonstrates interest and participation in overall department operations, strategic
planning, and implementation of major housing projects.
Function: Community Development 20% of Job
· Formulates and provides for a student and community development focused residential
curriculum.
· Supports all educational program efforts which encourages student driven
program initiatives.
· Provides leadership for all living-learning programs, including
Faculty In Residence, Residential Learning Communities and (in partnership with academic partners) the Residential Faculty Mentors.
· Supports departmental initiatives for residential students.
· Coordinates with other offices on campus for delivery of essential educational programming
and information to residential students.
· Identifies and promotes opportunities for
academic programming within the residence halls.
· Identifies and promotes opportunities
for community service, cultural awareness, and diversity programming.
· Oversees
programming initiatives in all residence halls.
· Leads the future development of the
Residential Learning Community program.
· Assists in the planning and successes of the
future housing program.
Function: Crisis Management 15% of Job
·
On a day-to-day basis, in partnership with Case Management and Victim Support Services (CMVSS), handles crisis management cases on
campus. The cases involve the sensitive areas of substance abuse, mental health, conduct, drugs, and general wellness.
· In conjunction with CMVSS, trains and evaluates staff who serve as Student Affairs
Professionals On-Call (SAPOC – Tier I and Tier II) who are on call 24/7.
· Participates
actively in the Process of Care Committee (POC) meeting which meets weekly.
· Makes
referrals to the office of Student Resources and Student Services.
· Follows up regularly
with SRSS and other constituents, i.e. faculty and staff, about how a student is being treated for substance abuse, mental health, or
general wellness concerns.
· Consults with academic partners on a regular basis about
academic performance relative to behavior for a student(s).
· Attends all POC
meetings.
· Makes all referrals appropriately, with proper and successful follow
through.
· Consults regularly with the Executive Director and Assistant Vice
Presidents.
· Trains properly SAPOC team.
Function: Community Standards
Administration and Supervision 15% of Job
· Assists in managing all aspects of
the disciplinary process in the residence halls.
· Recommends changes to residence life
policies and procedures that enhance the quality of the community living.
· Assists in
coordinating Assistant Directors, Resident Directors, and RAs, training in policy, judicial, and behavioral issues maintaining community
standards and conflict resolution.
· Gathers and compiles data on counseling, referrals,
disciplinary actions, and security interventions for all residential areas. Prepare semesterly and annual reports.
· Assists in the updating of the Code of Student Conduct/Community Living Standards for the
university.
· Updates HRL policy information in departmental and divisional publications
and websites (i.e. calendars, rules, regulations, and standards).
· Directs the judicial
review process successfully for all residence hall incidents.
· Trains all staff involved
with the judicial process.
· Serves as a liaison with all university constituents
daily.
Function: Culture of Service 5% of Job
· Provides high
quality service for internal and external stakeholders.
· Demonstrates client focus and
service by seeking out, understanding, and responding to the needs of both internal and external stakeholders.
· Responds to clients’ needs, questions, and concerns in an accurate, effective, and
timely manner.
· Works professionally with upset parents and students to find appropriate
solutions.
· Continually seeks efficient ways of providing services and excellent customer
service.
· Follows through immediately and thoroughly with crises and
student/parent/administrative requests.
Function: Committee and Meeting Assignments 5% of Job
· Represents the department at the discretion of the Executive Director on university or
division-wide committees and task forces.
· Attends Divisional, Central Staff, Housing and
Residence Life Staff, and supervisory meetings on a designated weekly or monthly basis.
·
Works as part of the central management and decision-making team.
· Attends Housing and
Residence Life staff meetings weekly.
· Attends all meetings as assigned.
Function: Other Duties 5% of Job

or required, whether or not specifically mentioned in this job description.
This position is considered ESSENTIAL –
Level 3. This means that the nature of this position’s work often requires you to be present and/or available to support
students who are experiencing crisis, both during and outside of normal business hours. While you are not expected to be always
available, you should expect to be on a rotating on-call schedule for when you may be required to respond to critical incidents on
campus. Additionally, this means that when there is an emergent situation at the university, you will be called upon to fill a
critical role. This includes but is not limited to the university’s response to hurricanes before, during and after the event, and
other weather incidents. You should not assume that being in this category means that you must remain in New Orleans for every
critical incident, but it does mean that you will have responsibilities during critical incidents. Your individual supervisor will
discuss the nature of your specific responsibilities as they are able to do so.

This position is classified as “exempt, salaried” and is assigned to pay grade 26. Tulane
