Department Information
USG is now accepting applications for the position of GLS Distribution Center Supervisor with the Georgia Library Service (GLS) for the Blind and Print Disabled under the auspices of the Georgia Public Library Service (GPLS). GPLS provides administrative support to Georgia’s public libraries; develops and implements statewide policies, procedures, and programs; and encourages reading, literacy and education through the continuing support and improvement of Georgia’s public libraries. Under their umbrella, GLS, the Georgia arm of the National Library Service (NLS) for the Blind and Print Disabled serves all eligible patrons of Georgia who are certified as print disabled on a permanent or temporary basis rendering them unable to see or hold standard print books.
Job Summary
Under limited supervision, the GLS Distribution Center Supervisor oversees the daily operations of the Georgia Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled (GLS) Georgia Distribution Center (GDC). Supervises Inventory Specialist staffers in the distribution of talking books and equipment statewide. Attends and participates in various professional committees, meetings, and conferences as a member of the GLS management team. Reports directly to GLS State Director.
Responsibilities
Supervises and annually evaluates Inventory Specialist staff in the distribution and care of the players and equipment utilized in Duplication On Demand service model and the processing of daily, weekly, monthly, and annual reports.
Issues written and oral instructions and trains staff on GLS, GPLS and NLS policies and procedures
Analyzes procedures and makes recommendations to improve library and workflow efficiency
Resolves patron and Area Outreach Center complaints and problems
Maintains a cooperative relationship with local postmaster
Performs patron reconciliations between CMLS (PIMMS) and the Keystone Library Automation System (KLAS)
Processes all ILL requests statewide in collaboration with GLS-Atlanta staff
Works with cataloging staff to ensure records are updated in a timely manner
Serves as primary signatory in WOW2 and secondary signatory in NLDB systems
Monitors and prepares purchase requests for supplies for GA1A and facilitates all GA1P supply orders through GPLS and NLS
Submits supply requests to NLS Multi-state Centers
Collaborates on weeding collection and related processes through the NLS Xess program
Supervises DOD serials duplication and distribution
Assists with duplication processes related to Local Recording Program
Provides technical assistance to BARD patrons as needed
Assists with maintenance of NLS union catalog records for locally produced books
Other duties and special projects as assigned by GLS State Director
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree; Master’s in Library Science may be given additional consideration
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in working with the disabled; knowledge of or experience in a Library for the Blind and Physically Disabled.
Experience with inventory control, ordering, and stock/mailroom procedures.
Experience with supervising a staff of two to four employees.
