Job Summary:
The Wisconsin Rural Entrepreneurial Ventures (REV) Specialist will be part of a talented team of researchers, specialists, and educators focused on research and educational programming development and delivery in community economic development. With over 50 years of working with Wisconsin communities, the Community Economic Development (CED) program engages stakeholders in building the capacity of our partners and performing research to identify best practices and discover new or emerging community economic development strategies.
The Rural Entrepreneurial Venture is a proven entrepreneurial development program designed to advance small-town economies through a targeted business approach. Launching in 2024, the Wisconsin REV program provides coaching, resources, and connections throughout the visioning and implementation process to REV communities as they develop their local entrepreneurial ecosystem.
The Wisconsin Rural Entrepreneurial Ventures (REV) Specialist will play a crucial role in the strategic development and implementation of the Wisconsin REV program. This position requires coordination with core leadership and strategic partners, supporting and mentoring community coaches, and facilitating the selection and support of Wisconsin REV communities. The REV Specialist will work collaboratively with strategic partners to foster robust, sustainable entrepreneurial ecosystems in rural Wisconsin communities. Key responsibilities include:
* Organizing and coordinating the core leadership team and Wisconsin REV team through monthly meetings to guide strategic decisions, communication, and community selection for the Wisconsin REV program.
* Collaborating with key strategic partners and Extension colleagues to support 5-7 community coaches, ensuring they are equipped to guide communities through the REV program effectively.
* Collaborating with key strategic partners and Extension colleagues to assess and select 5-10 communities for participation in the community readiness process, eventually choosing 5-7 communities for the inaugural Wisconsin REV cohort.
* Overseeing the launch of the inaugural Wisconsin REV communities cohort, ensuring alignment with program goals and targeted, place-based support for each community.
* Providing and connecting continuous guidance and technical assistance to community coaches, facilitating the development of local entrepreneurial ecosystems within selected communities.
* Providing direct community coaching support to one of the 5-7 communities selected as a Wisconsin REV community.
* Coordinating with Extension colleagues and key strategic partners to conduct comprehensive program assessments, employing methodologies such as stakeholder interviews, ripple effect mapping, and case study analysis.
* Coordinating with existing Extension programming (e.g., the Rural Wisconsin Entrepreneurship Initiative, the Community Food Systems program, and the EDA University Center), UW System partners (e.g., Institute for Business and Entrepreneurship), and state partners (e.g., Community and Economic Development Associates [CEDA] and Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation [WEDC])

Delivers and assists with planning outreach program activities, strengthens partnerships, ensures adherence to policy, and assists with program administration to promote stable and productive relationships between the university and local community. Strives to expand and ensure access to programs, facilities, and educational services to diverse audiences. May assist with tracking and managing the outreach program budget.

Education:
Required
Bachelor’s Degree
in Business Administration, Economics, Community Development, Economic Development, or another closely related field from an accredited institution.

Qualifications:
Required:
* Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and community partners.
* Evidence of strong leadership and project management skills.
* Evidence of outreach, curriculum development, and/or applied research related to entrepreneurship.
* Demonstrated ability to engage in community outreach initiatives and collaboration at the local, state, and national levels.
* Demonstrated ability in coaching, mentoring, or training individuals or groups.
* Demonstrated skills in interpreting, utilizing and applying evidence-based information and research findings.
* Ability to engage with culturally diverse populations in research and extension programs and activities.
* Ability to identify, develop and implement models for effective partnerships with community-based organizations, industry, government agencies, and the community.
* Ability to foster and contribute to a positive work climate and effective teamwork and collaboration with colleagues, advisory groups, audiences, and partners.
Preferred:
* Three or more years of professional experience relevant to the programmatic responsibilities of the position.
* Management of small and large teams toward effective project and program completion.
* Ability to write grants, secure external funding, and establish partnerships that pool or leverage public and private funds in support of the Institutional mission.
* Ability to communicate effectively in a second language.
* Evidence of ability to use technology for communication, information gathering, delivery, and reporting.
* Familiarity with Wisconsin’s business and economic development partners and programs (e.g., Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation, the Institute for Business and Entrepreneurship, Wisconsin’s Community Action Agencies [WISCAP]).
