Job Summary:
The mission of the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery (WID) is to discover and inspire through interdisciplinary research conducted in a dynamic, collaborative community. WID advances frontiers of knowledge, accelerates development of solutions, and engages the State of Wisconsin through interdisciplinary research.
The Associate Director will provide administrative leadership in the development of mechanisms for fostering scientific collaborations and interdisciplinary interactions at WID and initiatives to enhance the diversity of the WID community. The position will be responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of unique initiatives to engage the campus and local community at WID. This position will coordinate these initiatives with the building’s other stakeholders – the Morgridge Institute for Research and the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF) – as appropriate. This position will be actively involved in strategic and long-range planning for WID.
The Associate Director will provide direct day-to-day oversight and leadership for the financial,
purchasing, human resources, payroll and benefits, research IT, and grants management personnel for WID, including improving internal processes. The Associate Director will also be the primary contact with the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Education. He or she will develop and administer the center’s annual budget including expenditure forecasting, general accounting, cost analysis and revenue enhancement strategies and initiatives. This position will serve as a primary point of contact for new faculty and staff joining WID.
The Associate Director will manage facility and space allocation, building operations and improvement projects. He or she will act as WID’s agent in a unique building occupancy
structure and will maintain excellent working relationships with WARF, the Morgridge Institute for Research, Physical Plant, vendors, and tradespeople.
The Associate Director will oversee the WID’s research administration activities and develop
procedures to ensure best-in-class support for WID investigators.
The Associate Director will actively participate in development activities for new areas of interest
and major development initiatives.

Qualifications:
At least five years of progressively responsible professional experience with a record of significant accomplishments in managing in a diverse environment is required. Previous demonstrated experience in team building, creativity, flexibility, collaboration, decision-making, staff development, systems expertise and proactive problem solving is required. Excellent communication skills are required, including clear and concise writing. Knowledge of UW-Madison policies and procedures is highly desirable. Experience in entrepreneurial and private sector businesses is also desirable.
