Job Summary:
Academic Technology, a department within the Division of Information Technology (DoIT) at UW-Madison, advances the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s mission and strategic priorities as well as the Wisconsin Idea by wisely applying technology to current and future academic environments. The Director of Academic Technology and Associate Vice Provost will lead a team of approximately 60 people, manage a budget of over $7.3 million annually, and oversee several teaching and learning technologies.
The Director of Academic Technology and Associate Vice Provost will advance the use of technology in teaching, create an inclusive organization that values and respects each person, and provide services supporting teaching and learning with technology. Academic Technology services include [email protected] Madison, the Center for User Experience, the Learning Analytics Center of Excellence, the precollege IT Academy, as well as software development, training and project management teams.
The Director of Academic Technology and Associate Vice Provost reports directly to the UW-Madison CIO and Vice Provost for Information Technology, and serves as part of the DoIT executive leadership team, assisting in all aspects of DoIT and AT department-wide strategic planning, budgeting, operations, policy development, and communications. DoIT is a large and complex organization providing information technology services to UW-Madison, UW System and other agencies, employing approximately 800 people and operating with a budget of $105 million.
Responsibilities:
Develops and directs the implementation of strategic plans for enterprise information technology (IT) function(s), program(s), or service(s) to ensure resources are utilized and to provide effective information technology services. Typically manages enterprise IT services, serving the institution(s) through subordinate managers.

Required Qualifications:
* Experience in academic technology or similar technology service environment.
* Experience managing professional staff.
* Demonstrated commitment to inclusiveness and diversity, and experience maintaining an environment that will enable staff to participate and contribute to meeting the goals of the organization.
* Proven decision-making and problem-solving abilities for the analysis and interpretation of complex information technology issues while delivering high-quality customer service and using creativity to find successful solutions to assure programs and initiatives meet the established goals.
* Demonstrated success in effective financial and talent management in support of long-term strategic visions and operational needs.
Well Qualified Candidates Will Possess (Preferred Qualifications):
* At least 10 years of current, successful and increasingly responsible experience in academic technology or a similar technology service environment. At least 5 of those years managing professional staff.
* Demonstrated experience in working collaboratively and building strong relationships with diverse groups of people to gain consensus, launch initiatives, solve problems and resolve conflicts.
* Experience working through organizational change, fostering innovation and developing/delivering creative solutions.
* Demonstrated experience leading and collaborating in a complex, decentralized structure.
* Exceptional communication skills including interpersonal skills, and the ability to convey complex scenarios and solutions in a simple logical manner that addresses varying audiences.
* Ability to work with a wide range of constituents including technical IT staff, instructors, higher education administrators, and precollege and university students.

The candidate selected for this position may perform a combination of on-site and remote work subject to an approved remote work agreement (RWA) agreement. Remote work requires successful candidates to possess their own high-speed internet and phone to perform the work on a university provided computer. Candidate may, on occasion, be required to report to campus due to operational needs for meetings, trainings, or other activities.
