The University of Virginia’s College at Wise invites applications for a Program Manager for Heathly Appalachia. This position will work with the Southwest Virginia Health Authority Leadership and Healthy Appalachia Institute (HAI) to oversee day-to-day operations of the grant-funded program “Virginia Consortium to Advance Healthcare in Appalachia” under a three-year award from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. This position will support preparation of a regional Blueprint for Health, and will promote its adoption by key stakeholders in the region to build capacity and infrastructure to improve health outcomes for the population of Southwest Virginia. It will use USDA funds to further develop the regional telehealth infrastructure, to expand training programs, to facilitate requisite partnerships that improve access to care, and to augment the skills of the SW Virginia regional healthcare workforce consistent with its legislative authority.
The Program Manager will coordinate the activities of the SVHA Board and the Healthy Appalachia Institute to meet program goals and objectives, and to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations and requirements. The Manager will coordinate activities and communications with the other members of the Consortium, including HAI, UVA Health, Ballad Health, Tri-Area Community Health, and the Health Wagon, as well as regional stakeholders to advance the strategies and recommendations of the Blueprint. The Program Manager will also prepare technical and financial reports required by the USDA, and manage the program budget.
A bachelor’s degree is required with a master’s degree in public health or business management preferred. Three years of experience is required, particularly with financial management systems. Additionally, candidates must possess strong communication and coordination skills, the ability to oversee expenditures in accordance with federal and state regulations, and MS Office Suite skills. Experience with federal grant management and oversight and MS Project is preferred.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Bachelor’s degree
Experience: At least three years of experience.
Licensure: Project Management Institute (PMI) certification is typically possessed.

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
