Posting Summary:
The Coordinator for Civic Engagement assists in creating a vibrant and engaging culture that enhances the student experience at the University of Vermont with primary areas of program focus including service, social justice work, and civic education. Support programming efforts that uplift the University’s commitment to social justice, civic education, and service-learning opportunities. Serve as an advisor to service-focused student organizations. Participate in the planning, execution, and evaluation of Service TREK, RALLYTHON, and an annual Social Justice Retreat. Serve as an actively engaged campus partner and representative of Student Life. Responsible for supporting the mission and philosophy of the Department of Student Life, the Division of Student Affairs, and the University of Vermont.
Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience):
Bachelor’s degree and one to three years related experience required. Experience with event planning and execution, student leadership, service programming, service learning or other experiential education required. Experience developing and delivering social justice training required. Effective organizational, time management, and basic computer skills required. Ability to provide own transportation to program and volunteer sites. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, social justice, and community involvement required.
Desirable Qualifications:
Experience working in a higher education environment preferred. Familiarity with student government and/or student organizations preferred. Ability to mediate conflict desirable.
Special Conditions:
Weekend work required, Non-standard work hours required, Bargaining unit position, External candidates must complete a 4-month probationary period, A probationary period may be required for current UVM employees, Background Check required for this position
