The Department of Bioinformatics is home to theoreticians and experimentalists alike, who share a passion for the scientific exploration of uncharted territory in biomedicine through mathematical formalism and computation.
Experience and Education
* Master’s degree with major coursework in field of assignment and three (3) years of laboratory experience including at least two years at level of Research Assistant II or equivalent. or
* Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in field of assignment and four (4) years of laboratory experience including two years at level of Research Assistant II or equivalent.
Preferred Job Duties
* Work a minimum of 10 hours weekly. Full-time candidates will also be considered.
* Carefully prepare buffers, solutions, and reagents using established protocols.
* Reproducibly generate research samples (animal or human) for cancer research studies.
* Assist with tissue clearing and immunolabelling protocols of biological specimens.
* Work effectively with supervisor and lab members to accomplish goals.
* Evaluate efficacy of tissue preparation workflows using advanced microscopes.
* Organize experimental data for scientific reports and presentations.
* Maintain a detailed laboratory notebook. Given the large number of specimens and techniques, organizational skills, and the ability to multitask are paramount.
* Read scientific literature and compile information for journal clubs.
* Attend and participate in lab meetings.
Job Duties
* Recommends and/or initiates new or modified procedures and techniques based upon latest developments in assigned field or analysis of research data.
* Performs computer programming for accumulation and analysis of research data.
* Designs, constructs, repairs, or modifies electronic and/or mechanical equipment or apparatus used in experiments and research projects.
* Instructs medical students, graduate students, residents, or other laboratory personnel of lower grade with respect to techniques, procedures, and equipment utilized in research or experiments.
* Assists principal investigator and other professional personnel in writing reports and papers for publication.
* May provide working supervision to employees of lower grade engaged in performance of variety of difficult and complex laboratory work tasks.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
