ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The USF Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is an
integral part of USF and its mission by sponsoring a diverse and nationally competitive Division I athletic program. The program serves
several significant constituencies, including its student-athletes, who are students first. The most important priority of the program is
the progress of the student-athletes toward graduation. Other priorities include the health, fitness and emotional development of
student-athletes at USF. Intercollegiate Athletics provide a sense of collegiality, allegiance, and pride for students, staff, faculty,
alumni, boosters and the greater Tampa Bay community at large and serves as a focal point for their support. Within the framework of
competitive excellence, Intercollegiate Athletics at USF are also a contact vehicle leading supporters to a greater awareness of the
University’s mission, academic programs and prominence as an educational institution
POSITION SUMMARY:
To provide mental
health care across a number of domains to the student-athletes of the USF Intercollegiate Athletics Department. This includes but is not
limited to, prevention/outreach, assessment, treatment of psychological and behavioral disorders, managing and return from injury and
transition in and out of sport.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide overall prevention, assessment and treatment of major mental health
and behavioral disorders.
Provide individual, group and crisis intervention. Review and integrate educational and clinical assessment
and testing into treatment planning.
Consultation and education with other professionals and staff on issues related to mental
health
Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
Each position assigned to this
classification must require specific training at the Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree level in Psychology, Mental Health Counseling,
Social Work or other field appropriate to the program content. Bachelor’s degree candidates must have at least two years of applicable
experience. The Master’s degree may substitute for the required experience. State issued license in a mental health
discipline.
PREFERRED:
Master’s Degree in Psychology, Mental Health Counseling or Social Work or a relevant field and at least
3 years of post-licensure experience.
Experience in an athletic department, college counseling center, in patient/residential
psychiatric experience.
SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Evening and weekend work may be required at times, as well as on-call duty
for emergencies.
