Advertised Job Summary:
Under limited supervision, reporting to the Associate Dean for Finance and Business Operations, the Director of Human Resources and Organizational Development is responsible for the day-to-day human resources functions for the School of Medicine Greenville (SOMG). Collaborates closely with senior leadership, area supervisors, and the central HR Division to manage human resource needs throughout the position and employee cycle. Develops and implements workforce recruitment, onboarding, development, and reward strategies, effectively utilizing the tools and resources within the University’s framework. Responsible for effective position management. Educates and collaborate with leadership in the evaluation of employee performance, both on-going and the annual performance review, developing individual development plans/goals for their employees, and monitoring/analyzing the use of employee development funds. Serves as the primary liaison with the central Human Resources and Payroll offices on the Columbia campus. Demonstrates commitment to conducting business lawfully and ethically by consistently adhering to compliance policies, procedures, and regulations.
Minimum Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree and 5 or more years of human resources experience, which may be substituted by equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated ability to manage a high degree of complexity and to distill information. Able to think both strategically as well as effectively. Demonstrated experience developing key processes and distributing information across multiple channels. Experience in strategic planning and HR. Exceptional cross-organization collaboration-building skills, including ability to partner with teams with multiple different priorities. Passion to foster an inclusive and diverse culture through initiatives, training and education, communications, and implement optimizations based on high-level goals. Experience working for companies and organizations that have gone through transformations, most applicably in Human Resources. Experience working in Higher Education, Health Sciences or Academic Health Sciences Institutions. MBA or Master’s degree. Supervisor or leadership experience.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Ability to build trust, influence, and relationships with diverse team members at all levels in a matrix. Ability to leverage relationships to accelerate delivery, and to use these skills to facilitate connections with stakeholders across the Division of Human Resources, as well as SOMG. Exceptional written, presentation, and verbal communications skills, including expertise building out comprehensive and compelling presentation and communication materials that span functions and groups. Project Management skills and ability to lead multiple high-profile projects of varying timelines simultaneously across a distributed set of stakeholders without direct ownership of resources. Strong ability to prioritize work and maintain good judgment in a rapidly changing environment. Ability to synthesize data and insights, to align next steps from a large amount of (sometimes conflicting) data. Change management experience, in an applied setting. Experience managing budgets, financial reporting, and analytics. In-depth knowledge of applicable human resources laws and regulations.
