He/she will interact extensively with faculty researchers who are introducing novel experimental designs or methods and will use his/her years of experience in Immunology to assist investigators in groundbreaking research. He/she will assist the Facility Director in setting policies and establishing regular reviews of current business practices to ensure financial well-being of the Core and will help the Facility Director prepare the facility’s annual report, indicating to department and SOM business administrators the facility’s budget, fee schedule and overall plans for growth. Job Responsibilities
The Penn Human Immunology Core (HIC) seeks a Director B for the role of Technical Director of the resource laboratory. The principal duties of the position are to oversee daily operations of the facility; develop and implement assays and processes for immune monitoring; develop, standardize, and implement novel immunological assays; provide project management supervision for ongoing and new projects of the Core; participate in and in some cases lead new client consultations; interact extensively with faculty researchers to assist them in groundbreaking research; and troubleshoot all major problem areas that cannot be adequately addressed by other staff. In addition, the Technical Director will assist the Facility Director with the financial management of the Core. This position, with oversight from the Facility Director and the HIC advisory committee, is responsible for long-range planning goals, e.g., prioritization of projects, purchase of new equipment, change(s) in personnel, updating techniques, establishing and implementing new policies and procedures, and ensuring that Core staff receives adequate training in new technology.

Qualifications
Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts, and 5 to 7 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
A master’s degree (doctoral degree preferred) in Immunology or related area with a minimum of 5 years of bench experience in the performance and design of immunologic assays including flow cytometry is strongly preferred. Supervisory, service facility and/or project management experience is highly recommended. Outstanding writing and speaking skills are required. The ability to communicate effectively with people in diverse roles (scientists, technicians, physicians, etc.) is required. Experience in Good Laboratory Practices, use of laboratory information management system, management and/or experience in industry are preferred.
