Job Description Summary
The University of Pennsylvania Advanced Simons Observatory program is looking for a Technician to assist with the construction of state of the art optical components for the Simons Observatory. The Simons Observatory Large Aperture Telescope Receiver (LATR) will be the premier instrument for surveying the millimeter wave sky for the coming decade. See https://simonsobservatory.org/ for more information on the overall program. The National Science Foundation has recently funded an upgrade to the LATR. The successful candidate will assist with the construction and delivery of the upgrade.
Job Description
The University of Pennsylvania Department of Physics and Astronomy combines world-leading science with the intimate faculty-student community unique to small departments. We are among the smallest of all Physics and Astronomy Departments of the top 25, but we have labs and facilities comparable to some national laboratories, and we often top the list of most highly-cited research. The Simons Observatory provides scientists an unprecedented glimpse into the nature of fundamental physical processes that have governed the origin and evolution of the universe since the dawn of time itself. Over 270 scientists, engineers and technologists form over 35 institutions around the world are contributing to the project, making it the world’s largest cosmology collaboration.
