The Position
The Senior Compliance Specialist will be responsible for identifying and assessing Penn policies and overall areas of compliance risk in the organization and making subsequent recommendations based on those assessments; developing and implementing various educational programs addressing Worker Classification/Independent Contractor compliance matters; and implementing internal reporting processes.
Working with the Corporate Tax Compliance Manager, this position will develop procedures and training so that staff have the requisite background information and working knowledge of Independent Contractor requirements to carry out their responsibilities in a compliant and ethical manner as well as contributing to other payroll tax compliance projects.
This position will develop onboarding and off-boarding policies and procedures for Independent Contractors and will work closely with department, schools, and centers to implement and enforce these policies and procedures including rollout of a systematic approach to the Worker Classification process.
This position requires strong leadership skills, high integrity, a deep understanding of HR worker classification compliance, and the ability to represent the organization on many levels and on multiple project teams. The Senior Compliance Specialist plays a critical role in establishing and communicating best practices for the worker classification process, including ensuring compliance with all local, state, and federal tax regulations for tax and labor purposes. This includes understanding of 1099-NEC reporting at the federal and at a multi-state level.
While the primary purpose of this role is worker classification, this position will be an integral part of long-term and various payroll tax compliance projects and policy development.
