Job Description Summary
The Library Assistant is responsible for the processing of library materials for transfer and ingest into Penn’s high density storage facility, LIBRA. This position will report to LIBRA in West Deptford, NJ.
The Library Assistant will process library materials for transfer and ingest into Penn’s high density storage facility, LIBRA; pull, record, sort by size; vacuum, wipe or otherwise clean materials as necessary; under supervision, using bibliographic information and Excel spreadsheets as provided, prepare library materials in a variety of languages for the Libraries Research Annex; locate bibliographic records in cataloging module (ALMA); add and update holdings records, item records & barcode information as necessary; assign material to specific storage container; assemble high density storage containers; and collect & report statistics relating to processing. Additional duties include retrieval and refiling material as well as routine inventory maintenance of accessioned material.
Position requires regular lifting of storage containers weighing in excess of 25 lbs. each and moving of crates weighing in excess of 200 lbs. each.
