Assistant Professor of Petroleum and Geological Engineering – Petrophysics
The Mewbourne College of Earth and Energy’s School of
Petroleum and Geological Engineering (MPGE) at the University of Oklahoma invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of
Petroleum and Geological Engineering – Petrophysics to begin August 16, 2024. Our school is uniquely positioned to address the opportunities
provided by ongoing and future energy transitions and serve the demand for education and research in emerging energy fields such as
geothermal, hydrogen, and renewable energy, as well as energy storage, and CO2 capture and sequestration.
We are seeking a candidate
who can contribute to our academic excellence, research innovation, and student mentorship in the field of Petrophysics, broadly defined as
the study of rock physics, rock properties, rock-fluid interactions, fluid flow in porous media, and more. The faculty position will
integrate their skills and promote our existing competencies in the areas of geo-energy resources and storage, such as geothermal energy,
hydrogen and thermal energy storage, carbon sequestration, and conventional/unconventional oil and gas recovery. Duties include teaching
undergraduate and graduate courses, advising and mentoring students, conducting an active, collaborative, and transdisciplinary research
program, participating in shared governance in both university and professional service activities, and aligning goals and contributions
with the University of Oklahoma’s strategic plan, Lead On, University.

About MPGE and OU:
MPGE is one of the leading
petroleum and geological engineering schools in the U.S. Current research activities of our faculty are highly interdisciplinary and include
reservoir characterization and management, petrophysics, organic-rich shales, geothermal energy production, hydrogen production and storage,
CO2 sequestration, geomechanics, well stimulation, data assimilation, machine learning, drilling fluids, formation damage, enhanced oil
recovery, reservoir engineering, and well construction technologies and completions. The school has state-of-the-art teaching, research lab
facilities, and research centers. MPGE hosts the Integrated Core Characterization Center, which is widely considered to be one of the best
petrophysics and rock physics laboratories in industry or academia.
MPGE offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Petroleum
Engineering and Geological Engineering, a B.S. degree in GeoEnergy Engineering, and an M.S. in Natural Gas Engineering and Management. There
are currently thirteen full-time faculty, two part-time faculty, and five adjunct faculty, with a student enrollment of 120 undergraduate
and 100 graduate students. The school maintains an excellent relationship with the industry and has very strong support from its alumni. The
