Position Summary |
THIS IS A TIME–LIMITED POSITION WITH AN ESTIMATED DURATION OF 1-3 YEARS. The Research Technician position will perform mouse husbandry, genotyping, and other tasks necessary to maintain a large and complex mouse colony. This will include detailed record-keeping, interactions with laboratory members in experiment planning, and regular presentations to laboratory members on colony status. The Research Technician will perform scientific experiments and analyses as requested and supervised by the PIs and Research Specialists. These may include but are not limited to experiments to examine blood clot formation and quality, histology, microscopy, cell culture, media and reagent preparation, and immunoassays. The Technician will be expected to present data to the PIs and Research Specialists and execute next experimental steps upon consultation and review. The Research Technician will also perform activities needed to support general lab functioning and maintenance; these include but are not limited to autoclaving, EHS requirements, placing orders, organizing paperwork, and maintaining regulatory documents, and orienting student members on general laboratory organization and functioning. |

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Scientific skills: Basic knowledge and experience of mouse handling, PCR, performing calculations needed to carry out experiments, handling paperwork related to laboratory management, laboratory notebook maintenance. Computer skills: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint. Professional skills: Strong organizational skills, attention to details, ability to work independently, follow complex instructions, work well in team dynamic, maintain accurate records, meet deadlines Because this position will serve in mouse colony maintenance, it is a Severe Weather Essential and Communicable Disease Mandatory Employee position, and the employee must be willing to perform experiments on small lab animals and understand the potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Education: High school diploma, proficiency in college-level coursework in chemistry, biology, and related disciplines. Scientific skills: Advanced knowledge and experience in mouse handling and husbandry, PCR, gel electrophoresis, autoclaving, handling samples containing bloodborne pathogens, managing laboratory inventories (freezer logs, chemical inventories, etc). Experienced in data analysis using GraphPad Prism. Professional skills: Prior experience conducting basic research in a biochemical laboratory setting. |
