Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:
The mission of the School of Social Work is to advance equity, transform systems, improve lives. The School’s curriculum supports the mission and recognizes the uniqueness of the region served, including concerns for disadvantaged, vulnerable, and oppressed individuals, families and communities. Classes provide rigorous and evidence-based content, and give students the opportunity to explore theory, learn intervention skills and engage in challenging dialogue with colleagues.
Position Summary:
The Senior Associate Dean, with a working title of Vice Dean serves as the administrative officer who facilitates the planning, administration, evaluation, and continuous improvement of the academic programs of the School of Social Work (SSW), including the strategic planning process and implementation of academic programming across the school’s Master’s and Doctorate in Social Work degrees on-site and online programs. The Vice Dean collaborates with the school’s leadership team to lead and manage the daily administrative and business operations of the school, playing a critical role in student development and support, Faculty Affairs, and Staff Affairs. In collaboration with the Dean, the Vice Dean oversees faculty and staff recruitment, hiring, retention, and support. As the right hand of the Dean, the Vice Dean represents the Dean at designated school, university, professional, and community group meetings and events. The Vice Dean also acts on behalf of the Dean’s office to promote and foster faculty and staff engagement, development, well-being, and support.
This position may be eligible for a secondary appointment as a faculty member. Depending on the finalist’s experience and qualifications, the position comes with the option of a secondary appointment as either a fixed-term or tenured/tenure track faculty.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent) with three years or greater of related professional experience; for candidates demonstrating comparable professional backgrounds, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and five years or greater of relevant experience in substitution.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:
PhD or equivalent terminal degree with eight to ten years or greater of related professional experience.
A minimum of five years of experience in higher education with leadership or administrative experience and prior experience in a large, complex research university.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience with educational innovation and leadership, including knowledge of MSW education and accreditation.
Terminal degree in Social Work (e.g., MSW) or related field.
Knowledge and awareness of current issues and challenges in higher education, and social work education.
Administrative skills including the ability to multitask and prioritize.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Respect for faculty, staff, students, and colleagues.
Ability to manage and motivate people with diverse areas of expertise and backgrounds.
Ability to promote teamwork and esprit de corps among faculty and staff.
Ability to interact professionally and productively and develop strong relationship with a wide variety of students, faculty, staff, and community partners in collateral, superior, and subordinate positions.

Knowledgeable about the 2022 Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards (EPAS) as required by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) Commission on Accreditation (COA) and Commission on Educational Policy (COEP).
