Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:
The UNC Adams School of Dentistry Division of Craniofacial and Surgical Care provides a diverse approach to treatment for patients with craniofacial or oral and maxillofacial conditions, including those with multiple or complex oral health problems. The Orthodontics discipline focuses on the treatment of irregularities of the teeth, jaws, and bite relationship in children and adults.
Position Summary:
The Financial Care Coordinator (FCC) provides service to patients who are referred to the Orthodontic Clinics at UNC Adams School of Dentistry for evaluation and treatment. These clinics cover a wide range of patients from orthodontic to surgical treatments. This position is directly responsible for establishing patient contact and scheduling appointments, performing financial contracts, collecting payments, coordinating patient flow/procedures, and maintaining patient database (chart, x-rays, models, photographs, correspondence letters, etc). The FCC is responsible for facilitating patient’s financial contracts. The FCC facilitates the Medicaid prior approval process as well as the Medicaid payment reimbursement process. This position is responsible for the daily deposit and Touchnet reconciliations. This position completes a wide variety of tasks that include: checking patients in and out, scheduling new appointments, processing payments from patients, creating and distributing screening packages, answering and processing telephone calls, generating patient/doctor letters, receiving mail, answering questions and numerous other clinical and administrative duties.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:
Knowledge of financial contract facilitation and experience in filing Medicaid medical claims.
Knowledge of basic computer skills such as word processing and able to learn electronic patient management software and skills.
Ability to interface and take direction from a wide range of faculty members.
Ability to provide excellent verbal and written communication.
Ability to work independently as well as in a team oriented environment with a strong work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:
Bilingual (Spanish) candidate strongly preferred. Prior work experience in a dental/medical office setting preferred. Experience in the higher education setting is a plus. Experience in different aspects of financial contract facilitation. Ability to understand and embrace the wide variety of patients seen in the clinic.
