Our department is the Southwestern hub for advanced neurological diagnosis and patient care. We seek a dynamic individual to join our team as aa Nurse Educator to educate the New Mexico (NM) medical community on the genetic disease Cerebral Cavernous Malformation (CCM).
CCM is a genetic disease that effects descendants of the original Hispanic population of New Mexico and does not skip generations. The duties for this position include:
* Travel within the state of NM to meet with neurology providers and medical staff in hospitals and clinics
* Advocate for patients who are diagnosed or have symptoms of CCM1
* Collaborating with the Chair of Neurology and the Clinical Research Nurse, create, implement, and disburse training materials, seminars, webinars, and continuing medical education units (CEUs) to educate providers and other medical staff on CCM1, including pediatric providers, general practitioners, and other appropriate specialists in NM. This includes education on the Echo program
* Inform providers and others in the medical community on the use of proper ICD code, with the goal of getting an accurate count of those affected with CCM1 in NM
* Collaborate with the UNM School of Medicine to include CCM1 training as part of the curriculum
* Update materials as new information emerges on CCM1
* Coordinate with State Health Department: (for example, The Equity Program)
* Develop a collaboration with the National “Alliance to Cure Cavernous Malformations”
