Summary
The University of Michigan Injury Prevention Center (UMIPC) is seeking an outstanding statistician to support the data analysis activities of the center, in collaboration with the Statistics and Methods section Director. The UMIPC is one of nine CDC-funded regional injury research control centers that carries out research, training, and outreach missions with the overall goal of preventing injury. One of the core outreach activities of the center is the System for Opioid Overdose Surveillance (SOS)-a near real-time system for tracking fatal and non-fatal overdoses in the state of Michigan that is housed in the Statistics and Methods section. The successful candidate will a) work as the lead analyst in the Statistics and Methods section of the center and will conduct analyses to further the many UMIPC research studies, and studies directed by the UMIPC investigators both independently and under the supervision of the section head, Dr. Jason Goldstick.

Responsibilities*
Specific tasks performed will include:
* Perform cleaning and documentation of data generated from studies run by UMIPC investigators; these may include primary data, as well as data from large databases, such as the Optuminsight data base.
* Writing programs to clean data and perform statistical analyses in SAS, Stata, R, and/or Python, including the handling of massive data sets (e.g., claims databases)
* Formulating and implementing statistical analysis plans tailored to specific project needs
* Documentation and presentation of analytic results
* Creating data visualizations for data briefs, manuscripts, or presentations
* Procuring external data sources needed to supplement studies (e.g., publicly available data from the census, CDC WONDER, ICPSR, or other sources)
* Ensuring the fidelity of SOS data through running, and modifying as needed, data checking codes
* Working daily to guarantee timely upload of cleaned and checked SOS data to the web server

Background Screening
