Position Description:
The Senior Manager, Public Relations is responsible for securing earned media that communicates the Hammer Museum’s mission, maintains and enhances the Museum’s identity, and expresses its position as a dynamic cultural institution. The Senior Manager, Public Relations plays a crucial role in bolstering the museums reputation locally and worldwide by securing media coverage for major institutional priorities including the acclaimed Made in L.A. biennial, important retrospectives and thematic exhibitions, and the Hammer’s many public programs on topics including art, film, literature, politics and current events, and more.
The Senior Manager, Public Relations proactively pitches media opportunities as well as manages all incoming/reactive press inquiries. The Senior Manager develops and executes media strategy for the museum, including writing and shaping press releases, devising unique story pitches to editors and writers, and overseeing press events at the museum. The Senior Manager secures placement of feature articles, reviews, listings and profiles in national and local media outlets promoting museum exhibitions, programs, and other institutional priorities. This position cultivates active relationships with writers, editors, and photographers; organizes visits to the museum for film or photo shoots, press previews, and other events; and maintains press lists for outreach to media outlets and journalists.
