Summary of Job Duties:The University of Arkansas Press is seeking a highly motivated and creative Design and Production Manager to work alongside an excellent team under the supervision of the Director. The ideal candidate should possess a mix of strong visual aesthetics and organizational skills.
The Design and Production Manager’s primary focus will be the design of 25 scholarly and literary books-including interior and jacket-per year, acting as in-house designer on most projects while engaging a pool of talented freelance designers as needed. Responsibilities also include typesetting books, managing project schedules, reviewing and approving all stages of proofs, liaising with printers, managing the press’s digital asset management system and backlist files, and design of seasonal marketing catalogs and other promotional materials as needed.
The Design and Production Manager plays the primary role in the visual presentation of the Press, allowing for creativity, innovation, deep engagement with the material, and inspiring collaboration with press staff and authors.

Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or equivalent education and experience
2 years relevant experience
Fluency in InDesign, Microsoft Office Suite, and Adobe Creative Cloud
Preferred Requirements:
Design portfolio that demonstrates a strong eye for layout and graphic design and a refined design sensibility
Demonstrated expertise in cover design or page layout with a desire to master both
Demonstrated ability to manage complex, highly creative projects
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with changing priorities and deadlines
Ability to perform detailed work with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
Understanding and knowledge of industry standards, trends, and technical knowledge
Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team
