The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking an Accountant Specialist to perform specialized professional accounting functions usually of a large and/or complex nature across Financial Affairs. To maintain, analyze and report specific accounting functions to related departments, administration and external agencies. To conduct financial, operational and compliance reviews to ensure consistency with institution s financial policies and procedures. To resolve difficult compliance issues and advise departments and administration regarding issues. To provide information, clarification and assistance regarding the accounting process as requested by administrators, departmental personnel and outside or internal auditors. To develop reports and consult with departments concerning financial and accounting functions. To identify, analyze, interpret and ensure appropriate treatment of financial transactions. To gather data and prepare specialized financial reports regarding the accounts for internal and external purposes. To use various personal computer ad hoc reporting tools. To maintain knowledge of current trends and developments in specialized field of accounting.
This position will also support the needs of Budget Administration in specialized financial duties. May include preparing of budgets, financial statements, reports, adhering to specific reporting requirements, account reconciliation, working with vendors, other financial staff and administrators across campus.
Responsibilities
1. Budget Administration duties include budget modifications, monthly journal entries.
2 .Operational Duties include preparation of operating budgets, financial statement, reports and service level standards for the department Develop and administer unit budgets.
3. Grant-Related Duties: Monthly account reconciliations – Manage and update contract and sub contract renewals Acts as a liaison with Grants and Contracts Accounting and other UAB Administrative Offices Review financial reports on accounts to let Principal Investigator know status of grant funding.
4. Perform other duties as assigned.
(Annual Salary: $60,835 – $62,660)
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field and six (6) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Prior experience in Budget Administration will be ideal. A background in accounting, analysis, reconciliation in an academic environment is a bonus.
