Responsibilities

To provide quality pharmaceutical services to the patients, employees, and medical staff of UC Davis Health. A Staff Pharmacist is an integral member of the health care team, responsible for drug therapy monitoring, distribution, drug information, and precepting pharmacy students and residents, conducting clinical research, participating in Department and Hospital Committees, task forces and work groups and fostering excellent interdepartmental relationships.

Required Qualifications

• Applicants are encouraged to upload license and certification if required of the position.
• California Pharmacist License eligible and possess a valid license at the time of hire.
• American Heart Associate (AHA) BLS CPR or UCDH-issued CPR Certification
• Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience/training.
• Completion of a Pharmacy Practice Post Graduate Year 1 (PGY1), or equivalent experience.
• Computer skills that facilitate clinical patient data medication order entry and other basic clinical software programs.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with and educate patients about their medication therapy.
• Written and oral communication skills to provide information, explanations, and instructions clearly and concisely to, and to elicit information from others with varying levels of ability to understand, including individuals who are ill or distressed, or who may not speak English.
• Knowledge of current ambulatory care guidelines (i.e., NCEP, JNC, ADA).
• Demonstrated, ability to identify medication-related problems in patients, communicate them to a patient’s physician and offer recommendations.
• Complete working knowledge of, and skill to apply, practices, principles and techniques of patient care related to area of expertise.
• Decision-making skills to independently exercise delegated authority to take action, and to recognize when it is appropriate to seek assistance from others when limits of delegated authority have been reached.

Preferred Qualifications

• Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) or Certified Specialty Pharmacist (CSP) Certification
• PGY2 Pharmacy Residency
• Experience working with and directing residents and students.
• Educational experience and ability to work with and direct health care professionals.
• Problem-solving skills to independently recognize and define a problem; identify the resources available to help solve the problem; create and implement viable solutions; and follow through to ensure the problem is resolved to the satisfaction of all parties.
• Ability to supervise technicians and establish priorities of workflow.

Special Requirements

• The Department is comprised of inpatient pharmacies, outpatient pharmacies, a sterile production lab, ambulatory and specialty pharmacy services and the full complement of pharmacy purchasing, stores and distribution.
• This position may be subject to a criminal background investigation, drug screen, Live Scan fingerprinting, medical evaluation clearance, and functional capacity assessment.
