UC Davis Health Looking for Medical Assistant MA (Med Assistant 1) – Outreach Elk Grove Full Time

The Medical Assistant (MA) is responsible for sustaining an environment of intrinsic goodwill for the practice while providing optimum services to patients. The MA provides non-licensed medical support to medical care providers as a medical assistant for the department/clinical team to which it is assigned. The MA is supervised by a Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP) when administering medications and performing or assisting with procedures. The MA works under the direction of a clinic manager (practice manager and/or nurse manager) for administrative purposes, including customer service, professional behavior & development, assignment & scheduling of work, and performance of job functions not requiring supervision by an LIP.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must have a Certificate of Completion from a Medical Assistant training program.
• At least 1yr of recent MA experience in outpatient/ambulatory setting.
• Specialty experience in one or more of the following areas- Dermatology, ENT, Cardiology, Endocrine, Rheumatology, PM&R, and/or Pediatrics.
• EPIC/EMR experience.
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) CPR certification or UCDH-issued CPR Certification.
• To administer injections, must have written evidence of validation for training and competency in medication administration by injection and skin testing.
• Knowledge of practices and protocols related to medical office procedures.
• Knowledge of diagnostic and procedural coding.
• Knowledge of medical terminology sufficient to communicate effectively with patients, healthcare providers, and insurance company representatives regarding appointments, services, procedures, authorizations, and referrals.
• Ability to accurately read/translate physician orders to ensure accurate completion.
• Must pass UCDH Pharmacology verification exams if needed in job.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with assisting with dermatological procedures.
• Administer and prepare injections.
• Experience with ENT-related scopes (High-Level Disinfection).

Department Description

The Elk Grove clinic is part of the UC Davis Primary Care Network servicing clients from South Sacramento to Stockton with a wide range of healthcare needs. Currently, we have 7 Family Practice providers, 2 Pediatricians, 4 Internal Medicine, and 17 specialty physicians seeing 250 patients a day. The clinic also houses an outpatient lab and radiology departments. The GI clinic has 2 procedure rooms and 4 post-op recovery beds.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Ability to lift, move, and/or position patients as necessary to room them and prepare them for exams and procedures.
• Must be willing to work variable days (including weekends), hours, and locations as required to meet business needs of the practice.
