Position:
The College of Education invites applications for a tenure-track, 9-month position in the Department of Special Education beginning August 2024.
Qualifications Required:
• Earned doctorate or ABD in Special Education, educational psychology or a closely related field
• Knowledge of evidence-based practices for students with disabilities including one or more of the following: supporting students with Autism; evidence-based literacy practices; socio-emotional well-being; or related area in special education.
• Evidence of commitment to effective instruction and evidence-based instructional practice for students with disabilities.
• Evidence of scholarly potential, including but not limited to doctoral research, research presentations, evaluation work, publications, and work in progress.
• Strong communication, collaboration and organizational skills.
Preferred:
• Birth-21 teaching or comparable experience in special education or closely related field
• Experience working with students with Autism and families of students with disabilities
• Strong knowledge and experience base in quantitative research methodology
• Public-school teaching experience
• Familiarity with principles for universally designed instruction
• Experience with supervision or mentorship of teachers or teacher candidates.
Responsibilities:
Faculty will be assigned standard instructional tenure-track workload of six course units per academic year (typically 3 course units/semester) with one-course reduction in first year. Teach undergraduate and graduate special education courses and/or supervise early childhood, elementary or secondary internship placements in various instructional settings at the undergraduate and graduate level.
Support graduate-level programming in the Master of Education (MEd) program, the Teacher as Leader in Autism (TALA) program, and Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) programs as well as the newly established Autism Studies PhD program. This position also may involve the recruitment of students and student advising at the graduate and undergraduate level. Establish and pursue scholarly research agenda commensurate with background as well as engaging in service.
