The College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, is looking for vibrant, dynamic individuals interested in working in a team environment dedicated to student success. This is an exempt, 12-month, full time, non-tenure track staff position that provides an exciting opportunity to be a part of UT’s advising community.

The Position: The Academic Advisor II serves as a member of the Advising Services staff and exists to provide comprehensive academic advising to undergraduate students in the School of Art and to promote advising as an essential tool for academic success and a critical component of the educational experience. The primary responsibility of this position is to advise students in the College of Arts and Sciences, specifically the within the School of Art.
The Advisor II will support students as they transition at various points throughout their academic careers at UT which include:
· self- exploration that focuses on strengths, interests, and values,
· major and career exploration,
· identification of co-curricular, career and experience learning, and leadership opportunities to support both academic and professional development, and
· selection of major and development of an academic plan that aligns with strengths, aspirations, and abilities.
Qualifications
The Advisor II will:
· foster students’ intellectual and personal development toward academic success,
· interpret and advise students on policies and procedures of the University and College of Arts and Sciences
· teach students the purpose of General Education and Vol Core, the academic opportunities across colleges, and the Arts and Sciences curriculum
· conduct pre-health, pre-law, academic probation, and pre-teaching academic advising appointments
· evaluate students’ progress, assist in development students’ desired goals, and develop strategic academic plans to accomplish goals
· inform students of academic options and advise on best courses of action
· represent the College of Arts and Sciences at university-wide events
· represent the College of Arts and Sciences during outreach activities and recruitment activities
· provide all services related to new student and transfer orientation advising sessions
· evaluate students’ needs and make appropriate referrals to campus and college resources
· prepare for advising appointments and maintain confidential detailed student records, ensure accurate records are maintained, correspond with advisees on a regular basis through email
· serve as a mentor to a new A&S advisor, present content during orientation advising training, develop and present professional development programs during A&S advising staff meetings and staff workshops
· Foster professional and personal development.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Master’s degree
· Two years of experience as an academic advisor in a college or university setting
· Excellent oral communication and writing skills.
· Demonstrated knowledge of academic advising and/or student learning/ development theories applied to practice
· The ability to relate effectively to students, faculty, support staff, alumni, and parents.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Experience working with a diverse student population
· Ability to utilize technology that supports both students and professional practice (MS Word, Excel, Student Information Systems, Degree Audits, Internet/On-line Resources and Support.
· Ability to present complex information to groups of students and staff
ANTICIPATED SALARY: $48,000. The position includes a standard university benefits package.
