Work Schedule:
8:00 am – 5:00 pm with some evenings and weekends required for event management. Work schedule requires flexibility and hours will change based on operational needs of the Dubois Center.
Primary Purpose of Position:
Position is responsible for event management while assisting with venue management and operations and other project management when necessary. Position must understand policies related to reserving space and have a working knowledge of relevant state laws. The position is expected to convey relevant and accurate legally binding information and UNC Charlotte policies and procedures while providing outstanding customer service and ensuring successful events. Assists with writing policy related to venue management. Position acts as the manager on duty in the absence of supervisors. Position assists manager with internal relations when directed. Maintaining strong relationships and upholding the reputation of The Dubois Center is at the forefront of our daily operations. Position will assist with other projects as assigned, including some operational assignments. Position may manage student and temporary workers.
Minimum Education/Experience:
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
University Preferred Qualifications:
Graduation from a four year college or university and two years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Essential Job Duties:
Manages a busy multi-purpose venue with primary responsibility for events. Position will assist the Events and Venue Manager with writing and updating policies and procedures appropriate for The Dubois Center by utilizing a thorough understanding of University and State policies.
The Dubois Center is considered “assigned space” under Policy 601.6 Scheduling Space and therefore little written guidance currently available applies. Position is responsible for management of events and support staff and related to events. Position has management authority in the absence of other management.
Other Work Responsibilities:
Position will market space at The Dubois Center and manage both large-scale and high-profile events held at The Dubois Center. Ability to work under stress. Ability to make quick, effective, efficient decisions. Computer literate, experienced in word processing, Facility Management System, databases, spreadsheets and ability to problem solve computer conflicts. Ability to work with many people and projects simultaneously while maintaining professional composure. Must be professional in representing the University in working with the public. Must be able to interpret and explain University policies and procedures. Ability to work with a diverse group of faculty, staff, and students. Must be knowledgeable in all areas related to event planning, business and financial services related to events (budgeting/invoicing/ accounts payable/receivable), and policy interpretation and enforcement. Must be able to respond to and coordinate responses to a myriad of issues related to competing agendas, changing priorities, and mission direction, often resulting in space conflicts and scheduling demands. This position demands political sensitivity and the ability to effectively communicate at all levels of the organization. This often results in the need to explain, justify, and sometimes assist in developing policy/procedure in order to best meet the interests of The Dubois Center.
