The Department of Psychology is an academic community of teacher/scholars and doctoral, master’s, and undergraduate students that is engaged in advancing the discovery, dissemination, and application of knowledge in traditional areas of Psychology in general and applied areas of Psychology in particular. The Department of Psychology seeks to provide quality undergraduate education and to attain national and international recognition for research and graduate training in Health Psychology and Organizational Sciences. We strive to achieve our mission in order to:
– To prepare students for careers in science and professional practice in Health Psychology and Organizational Science;
– To advance basic and applied psychological research
– To build connections with and make contributions that benefit our local community.

Description of Work:

Thus, the Job Responsibilities and Essential Functions for Tenured and Tenure Track Faculty should be interpreted in the context of the related departmental and collegiate goals.
Teaching, Advising, Curriculum and Instructional Development – Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to teaching may include but are not limited to: subject matter competence, course design, course presentation, advising and consultation, directing student research, curriculum and instructional development, and grading student work.
Scholarly Research, Creative, and Other Professional Activities – All tenured and tenure-track faculty are expected to participate in expanding the knowledge base of her/his academic field by conducting research or engaging in other creative activities as appropriate to the faculty member’s discipline. Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to research may include but are not limited to: research/creative activity that generates new knowledge and/or synthesizes and/or integrates existing knowledge, publication, an on-going agenda for research, scholarly, and creative activity, and are expected to seek extramural support for their work.
Service to University, the Public, and the Profession – All tenured and tenure-track faculty are expected to engage in a program of service appropriate to their discipline. Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to service may include but are not limited to: service to the administration and governance of the University, public service, and service to the profession.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
A PhD degree from an APA-accredited Clinical, Counseling, or Health Psychology program; an established program of research in clinical psychology; a demonstrated record of (or strong promise for) external funding for research; an ability to teach and mentor a diverse student population at both the undergraduate and graduate levels; licensure (or eligibility to be licensed) as a health service psychologist in North Carolina.
Finalists will be asked to discuss how their teaching practices engage students of different ages, races, ethnicities, backgrounds, identities, and abilities, helping to remove barriers in order to ensure the success of all students regardless of their entry pathway into the university.
Minimum Experience/Education:
UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.
Preferred Education, Skills and Experience:
The successful applicant will be joining a diverse group of faculty who value teaching, research, and clinical practice. They will be someone who finds meaning from being in the classroom and providing high-quality, active learning experiences and who also seeks to be a productive scholar with a programmatic, externally funded line of research. Preference will be given to candidates whose research program aligns with clinical health psychology. The successful candidate will:● Teach clinical courses at the graduate level (e.g. in assessment, therapy, interviewing), general and applied psychology courses at the undergraduate level, and courses in the candidate’s area of expertise.● Provide research and professional mentorship to graduate students in the Health Psychology PhD Program.● Maintain an active research agenda that engages graduate and undergraduate students.● Contribute to the in-house training clinic, deliver clinical services, and supervise practicum students.● Provide service to the Department, the Health Psychology Ph.D. Program, the College, and University.
● Actively contribute to the Department’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.● Contribute to the Clinical Concentration’s ability to meet American Psychological Association competencies, including those related to individual and cultural diversity.
