Doctoral degree in a discipline related to disaster management, epidemiology, environmental health, toxicology, or related areas.
Position Summary:
The Institute for Disaster Management in the College of Public Health at the University of Georgia seeks a full-time research-track faculty position (12-month appointment) at the assistant research scientist level.
This position will enhance the research activities within the Institute for Disaster Management (IDM). The specific areas of focus for this position will be in nuclear threat modeling, disaster management/medicine, and emergency preparedness. The successful candidate will serve as a co-investigator on IDM principal investigator’s current research programs and identify and apply for new funding sources as principal investigator focused on disaster health, disaster medicine, nuclear modeling, and public health preparedness. The candidate will also serve as the research director for IDM.
In addition to the duties outlined above, the candidate will have the opportunity to train/mentor MPH/PhD graduate students in disaster management, will produce peer-reviewed publications, and will contribute to the robust externally funded grant portfolio at IDM.

Additional Requirements:
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification:
PhD in Disaster Management, Epidemiology, Health Policy and Management, or related field with an MPH in disaster management or related field.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:
We seek applicants with Nuclear Disaster Modeling, Disaster Management/Medicine, Incident Command, Emergency Preparedness, Research Methods expertise.
The candidate should have exceptional communication skills to collaborate with state, national, and international collaborators.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Maintain high ethics and productivity in the Institute for Disaster Management and in the College of Public Health at the University of Georgia.
Supervise graduate students.
Develop scientific leadership, especially in the area of nuclear threat modeling.
Develop independent grant funding.
Lead independent research projects.
Participate and present research findings at national and international conferences.
Write scientific articles for publication in the peer-reviewed journals.
This position requires strong oral and written communication skills.
