Position Highlights

The University of Arizona BookStores is seeking Retail Inventory Manager to manage the work related to the Receiving and Quality Control processes for the General Merchandise and Course Materials divisions of the Bookstore. The Retail Inventory Manager will plan, develop, manage, and evaluate strategies and operations within a university establishment. They will report directly to the Assistant Director of Operations & Inventory Control and collaborate closely with the accounting department to ensure inventory accuracy.

The Retail Inventory Manager is responsible for providing direct supervision to two full-time staff members who are responsible for the receiving and backstock functions. They will oversee and participate in the day-to-day functions of these areas to ensure that they are operating in compliance with organizational expectations regarding accuracy, accountability, and efficiency.

This position will work on-site. This role may also require occasional nights and weekends for events and on-call coverage.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Supervise two full-time staff members who oversee
  backstock warehousing and receiving of general merchandise and course
  materials.
• Develop and enforce procedures related to receiving and
  backstock functions to ensure accuracy, accountability, and efficiency.
• Analyze reports to determine shrink metrics and
  researching causes for inventory accuracy.
• Complete and report cycle counts to ensure accurate
  inventory levels.
• Utilize continuous improvement strategies to ensure
  warehousing, inventory management, and policies and procedures are aligned with
  the University of Arizona BookStores overall business plan.
• Ensure compliance with safety guidelines and procedures
  in the backstock and receiving areas.
• Develop and maintain training programs for staff members
  to improve their job performance.
• Participate in inventory counts and audits to ensure
  inventory accuracy.
• Recommend process improvements and identifying
  opportunities for cost savings in inventory management.
• Provide guidance and support to team members to help them
  improve their skills and meet their job responsibilities effectively.
• Assist in the preparation of reports related to inventory
  levels, inventory movements, and receiving and backstock functions, as
  requested by management.
• Ensure that all inventory-related activities are
  conducted in accordance with established policies and procedures.
• Communicate direction from leadership and articulating
  its impact on staff work objectives.
• Prepare periodic reports, financial information, and
  records on product and service needs and sharing the findings with BookStores
  leadership and the accounting team.
• Influence others outside of your own job area on
  policies, practices, and procedures to support college, division, or department
  objectives.
• Use information exchange, influence, and active
  persuasion to gain the cooperation of others to support the organization’s
  goals.
• Communicate margin issues with buyers, vendors, etc. and
  working towards timely resolutions.
• Generate accurate inventory reports for the leadership
  team.
• Create and enforce quality control measures to maintain
  high standards of accuracy, accountability, and efficiency in inventory
  management.
• Control markdowns and voids by monitoring damages and
  overstock to minimize losses and maximize profits.
• Coordinate the receiving of inventory for incoming orders
  both GM and course materials, ensuring timely delivery and accurate tracking of
  inventory.
• Process all incoming and outgoing transfers of
  merchandise in BookStores internal system to maintain accurate inventory
  records and minimize errors.
• Contribute to the budget process for the inventory
  management program and ensuring that resources are allocated effectively to
  meet operational requirements.
• Ensure the security and proper operation of the dock area
  and its procedures, as directed, to minimize losses and maintain operational
  efficiency.
• Coordinate and participate in all inventory events to
  ensure accurate tracking and monitoring of inventory levels.
• Supervise, schedule, and train staff on all applicable
  inventory processes to ensure that they are knowledgeable and skilled in their
  roles.
• Analyze complex problems and developing innovative
  solutions through investigation and analysis of multiple alternatives, considering
  the needs and requirements of the University of Arizona BookStores.
• Develop and implement programs within backstock and
  receiving, contributing to the success of the organization, and improving
  operational efficiency.
• Other duties, as assigned, that are accordance with the
  mission of the organization.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
• Minimum of 5 years of related work experience, including 2 years of managerial experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
• This position requires a flexible work schedule, including some evenings and weekends.
• Ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.

• Experience using NetSuite.
