Job DescriptionThe College of Veterinary Medicine is recruiting a Registered Veterinary Technician to serve as an Animal Health Care Instructional Technician within the Veterinary Clinical Skills Program. The primary purpose of this position is to promote the advancement of the education of Veterinary Students in an advanced, immersive clinical simulation center. A successful candidate will work with veterinary faculty to assist and instruct veterinary students during the first three years of their educational program. Duties include, but are not limited to: prepare and conduct laboratory sessions, demonstrate various clinical skills and provide feedback to students, training them to perform these skills on the major domestic animal species (i.e. canine, equine, bovine, etc) utilizing models, simulators, cadavers, and live animals; assist with scheduling laboratory training sessions and examinations; maintain laboratory areas to expected standards; maintain and coordinate care of models, simulators, and surgical equipment; secure laboratory equipment and supplies; order pharmaceuticals, supplies, equipment, and animals for instruction; coordinate sterilization, care, and maintenance of equipment as needed; maintain controlled substance and animal use records; and perform other duties as needed or assigned.The successful candidate will be expected to work Monday-Friday, 40 hours a week on first shift with the schedule being determined by the college unit. This position does not require on-call, overnights, or weekend shifts.Required Qualifications: State of Ohio Registered Veterinary Technician License at the time of hire.Degree from an accredited veterinary technology program; or an associate’s degree or bachelor’s degree; completed and successfully passed VTNE prior to hire date, minimum of two years clinical experience familiarity with small animal species required; familiarity with equine handling and restraint techniques; familiarity with anesthetic drugs and blood sampling technique; familiarity with sterile surgical technique; lifts animals weighing 50-70 lbs, sharp focus vision and finger dexterity required; must be comfortable working with cadavers. Computer skills will be considered an asset. Requires successful completion of a background check..Desired Qualifications: a minimum of 3 years previous clinical experience as a Registered Veterinary Technician; previous teaching or mentorship experience is ideal but is not required. Computer skills will be considered an asset.Physical Requirements: Pushing/pulling/lifting up to 50 lbs., exposure to animal dander and/or zoonotic disease(s), exposure to needle sticks, hazardous chemicals, and/or biohazardous waste

Targeted salary range: $19.52 – $26.04 per hour.
