Preschool Teacher, Afternoon Program plus Health Stipend
The Oaks Parent-Child Workshop
Since 1947, The Oaks has been educating children and families in a cooperative morning preschool program setting accompanied by an afternoon program run by our staff. We are seeking a confident, caring, and creative Preschool Teacher to join our staff for The Oaks’ Afternoon Program.
Responsibilities include:
○ Working collaboratively with the Head Teacher to ensure that the Afternoon Program provides a safe, nurturing, play-based, and inclusive learning environment
○ Nurturing the spirit and curiosity of each child while supporting independence and community
○ Using and modeling positive behavioral strategies and conflict resolution procedures
○ Collaborating with staff to build child-centered, open-ended activities for the children
○ Confidently communicating with caregivers and staff
○ Working with the Head Afternoon Program Teacher to keep the school environment attractive
○ Maintaining punctuality and regular attendance
Current knowledge of child development tenets and familiarity with developmentally appropriate practice are essential requirements of the position. We encourage and support continuing education.
On your first day, we’ll expect you to have:
● Minimum of six (6) Early Childhood Education Units with continuous enrollment until 12 ECE units are completed with passing grades.
● At least one year of teaching experience in an early childhood program. Note: Equivalent experience as a parent in a cooperative preschool setting may be considered.
● Adherence to and completion of all California Community Care Licensing requirements
Bonus experience:
● A demonstrated commitment to nature-based learning
● Fluency in Spanish
● Experience participating in a cooperative workshop environment
● Associate of Arts (AA) in Child Development, Early Childhood, Psychology, or Family Life Studies, with 12 ECE units and qualified to hold a Teacher Permit
Benefits: $20-$23 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications, plus a health insurance stipend.
Duration: One year (renewed on a yearly basis)
Working Hours: 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. during the Santa Barbara City College calendar year (August 22, 2022 – May 30, 2023) and an eight-week Summer Program, 8:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. instruction that begins on June 5 – July 28, 2023.

The Oaks Parent-Child Workshop is a cooperative preschool, providing parent education in an inclusive and nurturing community, and a play-based learning environment for children 2 ½ to 5 years of age. We are a parent education program affiliated with Santa Barbara City College.
Our Morning Program is run by a Director and Assistant Director. Parents participate in the classroom weekly, share in the operation of the school, and are actively involved in their child’s learning. Our Afternoon Program runs in complement to our Morning Program to provide seamless, full-day care for families in our warm and nurturing environment. The Afternoon Program supports a smaller group of children (up to twelve children who are developmentally ready for a higher level of independence), accompanied by a Head Teacher and Teacher.
