The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing, and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF’s support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.

HJF is seeking a Research Associate II to monitor the execution of clinical trials associated with specific projects. The Research Associate II ensures that all necessary steps are taken toward safety provisions and all regulations are adhered.

This position will be in support of Department of Family Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS). In collaboration with other scientific and technical staff, this position will provide technical discretion in the design, execution, and interpretation of quantitative and qualitative research.

Attend in-person meetings.
• Performs review and synthesis activities such as literature reviews, landscape analyses, and/or review of policy and practice guidelines.
• Assists with research design planning, start up, and assisting with required Institutional Review Board approvals.
• Assists with development, piloting, and implementation of quantitative and qualitative research tools (e.g., focus group discussion guides, interview guides), in addition to enrollment, scheduling/coordination, data collection, validation, coding, and analysis.
• Contributes to the writing and editing of scientific manuscripts, abstracts and presentations for publication in technical and peer-reviewed journals and presentation at scientific conferences and meetings.
• May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to communicate clearly, work well with others, identify, and resolve problems, and deliver results as a team.
• Demonstrated ability to plan, schedule, and coordinate activities to meet deadlines.
• Knowledge of survey management tools (e.g., Survey Monkey, RedCap, Google, or Microsoft forms).
• Knowledge of qualitative software (e.g., NVIVO, MAXQDA, Dedoose, Qualtrics).
• Knowledge of citation management software (e.g., EndNote, Mendeley, Paperpile, Zotero, EasyBib, or RefWorks, etc.)
• Working knowledge of a variety of productivity software, including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office and Google Suite software.

The following are not required but are highly valued:

• Knowledge of SPSS, R, Python and/or ArcGIS software.
• Familiarity with ICD-9 and ICD-10 coding.
• Familiarity with and experience with quantitative and qualitative analysis methods.
• Experience in a specific field be extra beneficial? Psychiatry, Pediatrics, Infectious Diseases, Physical Therapy, Public Health, etc.

Work Environment

• This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.

Education and Experience

• Master’s Degree
• Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience required.
