The Department of Plant Pathology and Microbiology (https://plantpathology.tamu.edu/), College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Texas A&M University invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track position with a 9-month appointment beginning August 1, 2024. Applicants will be considered for the faculty title of Assistant Professor with research (60%), teaching (30%), and service (10%) responsibilities. The successful candidate will be offered a competitive salary, faculty start-up package, and laboratory space in the new (2019) Plant Pathology and Microbiology building. These new facilities include state-of-the-art growth chambers and greenhouse facilities and core facilities including Microscopy and Imaging, Genomics and Sequencing, High-Performance Research Computing, Center for Structure Biology, Bimolecular NMR laboratory, and Protein Chemistry Laboratory.
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate is expected to develop and lead an independent, high-impact, extramurally-funded, and internationally recognized research program. Candidates with a strong background in any current or emerging area of plant-microbe interactions that will fit within our department’s focus on plant pathology are encouraged to apply. The subject areas include but are not limited to epidemiology, pathogen ecology, pathogen population biology, host-microbe interactions, immunity and disease resistance, vector-borne disease, and disease management. Responsibilities will also include teaching graduate and undergraduate level courses, chairing and serving on graduate committees and service to the department, university, and the profession. The Department of Plant Pathology and Microbiology hosts an undergraduate program in Bioenvironmental Sciences and graduate programs in Plant Pathology.

The university promotes multiscale-based interdisciplinary research to advance foundational knowledge and application in agriculture, engineering, and medicine. In addition to departments, Texas A&M University has several interdisciplinary graduate programs including Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Genetics and Genomics, and Molecular and Environmental Plant Sciences. Texas A&M University houses the Center for Phage Technology, the AgriLife Genomics and Bioinformatics Core Facility, the Experimental Genomics Core Facility, the High-Performance Research Computing facility, the Initiative in Plant Pathology & Microbiology on the Root Rhizosphere, the Microscopy and Imaging Center, and the Integrated Metabolomics Analysis Core.

Qualifications
A Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Plant Pathology or related area, including but not limited to genetics, genomics, biology, ecology, entomology, microbiology, soil science, crop science, computational biology etc. Candidates with post-doctoral research experience are preferred. Evidence of the potential for developing an outstanding research program and indications of strong mentorship and teaching skills are required. Applicants are expected to have a strong publication record, interpersonal and communication skills, and the desire to collaborate with others in a collegial team environment.
