SVP Worldwide, the world’s largest consumer sewing machine company, is looking for a creative and motivated Area Manager for our Viking Sewing Gallery department located inside Jo-Ann Fabric & Crafts store in the Southeast Region (FL, TN, GA). The company and its three iconic brands – SINGER, VIKING, and PFAFF – have delighted consumers for over 460 years. These premium brands and products are regarded as the choice for serious sewists and novice crafters.
The Viking Sewing Gallery channel within SVP Worldwide was established 25 years ago and has grown from a small operation to its current state of over 170 store locations, employing more than 600 team members across 36 states. Most of our Retail stores are located inside JOANN Fabrics & Crafts. We operate one free-standing location. This chain of retail locations contributes substantially to the overall company profits and is strategically important as it is focused on the most premium/valuable consumers. The chain sells a disproportionate amount of the company’s highest margin products (e.g., MSRP>$5,000). Its product portfolio includes the brands of SINGER, HUSQVARNA VIKING, and mySewnet covering entry-level sewing machines all the way up to advanced, internet-connected, leading-edge household sewing machines and all segments in-between. In addition to sewing machines, the product portfolio includes sewing accessories and notions and embroidery software. Services available with the Viking Sewing Galleries include assisted sales through demonstrations, sewing machine repair service, free machine operation classes, consumer classes, and events.

The Area Manager will plan and lead the activities of all stores within the assigned area of operations for Viking Sewing Galleries, including full profit and loss responsibility while acting within the scope of the company objectives to accomplish regional and area goals. Using their skills and experience to ensure their area is not only operationally sound but a positive, team-oriented environment that delivers results. The Area Manager works alongside their Store Managers to ensure that they are being developed appropriately, and provide our customers with exceptional experiences in our galleries. All tools are effectively utilized in each store and market resulting in superior demonstration of products and services

Sufficient staffing levels are consistently maintained for each store through proactive recruitment, selection, and onboarding
Protection of company assets through loss prevention and expense efficiencies
Continuous talent development in the areas of merchandising display efforts, store growth, training and development, employee relations, customer service, systems, events, classes, etc.
Consistent and effective communication of area and regional priorities to store teams

QUALIFICATIONS
Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management or a related field, equivalent experience
4+ years of multi-unit retail management experience with progressively more responsibility and demonstrated success in sales of high-ticket items is preferred
Previous sewing experience is preferred.
Must reside within the area/region of responsibility (TN, GA, FL) and be near a major airport for traveling purposes
Experience with Client Relationships-Full Customer Lifecycle Environment from Prospecting to Post Purchase/ Personal Goal Setting/Individual performances
Experience with general office equipment, such as a computer, calculator, copier, and telephone. Proficient with POS systems, Google Suite, and/or MS Office applications
Knowledge and Skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrated interpersonal and customer service communication skills, while managing from a distance
Strong organizational and leadership skills
Strong analytical abilities

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Works in an in-person, fast-paced, and ever-changing retail environment. 75% travel with overnight stays where required.
