Full Time
The Special Education Building coordinator provides coordination and support for special education and differentiated programming. Assistance is provided to regular and special education teachers, principals and assistant principals in the areas of diagnosis and intervention procedures, classroom management, curriculum development, Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and objectives, instructional methods, instructional materials and equipment, parent consultation, problem solving and staffing, and other resource allocations.

Essential Job Functions:
1.Provides oversight, support, and coordination of students with IEP’s who are involved in alternative education programing (off campus, etc. if student has an IEP).
2.With the building administrator, ensures Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) compliance including timelines, content and implementation of IEP services and placements.
3.In collaboration with the building administrator and Director of Student Services, supports and encourages staff in development and implementation of instructional methods, materials, assistive technology and techniques, and service delivery for students with disabilities including coaching and modeling in the classroom.
4.Assists the Director of Student Services, principals and other staff in the development, implementation, and evaluation of individual programs, services offered, diagnostics, and class lists.
5.Facilitates effective communication between special education staff, regular education staff, administrators, and parents.
6.Serves as Local Education Agency (LEA) representative at IEP meetings when requested by principal or assistant principal or when situation warrants the coordinator to be in attendance.
7.Assists psychologists, administrative assistants, and counselors in review of records of transfer students to ensure proper placement and appropriate services are provided.
8.Assists with and trains special education teachers and pupil services staff in use of Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA) and development of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) and best practices around evaluations and creation/implementation of IEP’s.
9.With the Inclusion Support Teacher, Coordinates Extended School Year services for the building.
10.Coordinates Learning Strategists and Educational Assistants schedule and caseloads.
11.Monitors high-needs student by meeting with case managers on a regular basis to discuss and confirm that documentation of instruction/modifications, parent communications, academic and behavioral interventions have occurred.
12.Weekly check in with new staff.
13.Monitor and support all learning strategists around technology use regarding IEP creation, communication, data collection, and assistive technology through regular meetings at the building level.
14.Supports transition of incoming students from the middle school by coordinating current to future case managers at the end of the fifth grade school year, communicating curriculum and staff needs to the Director of Student Services for the fall transition to middle school (LINKCREW,CCEE Curriculum support, etc.)
15. Facilitate team meetings twice per month
16.Complies with the absence policies of the district
Requirements of Essential Functions:
Occasional (1-33%) bending, pushing, pulling, lifting, walking, squatting, reaching and stair climbing in order to perform the essential job functions.
Lifting:0 -10 poundsconstantly (66-100%)
Marginal Job Functions:
1.Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or the Director for Student Services.
Job Qualifications:
1. Current DPI license in an area of Special Education.
2.At least 3 years of successful educational experience.
