The School of Humanities and Sciences (H&S) is the center of a world-class liberal arts education at Stanford University. SUMMARY:
The Stanford Global Studies (SGS) Division oversees 14 area- or thematically-focused centers and programs, providing an arena for students and scholars to explore our increasingly complex
world from multiple economic, political, social, technological, and cultural perspectives.
Through its network of more than 400 affiliated faculty and educational programs that reach students at the undergraduate, master’s, and Ph.D. levels, SGS contributes to every facet of international engagement on campus: faculty research, doctoral training, community life, and undergraduate and graduate education. In addition, four centers within the Division are currently designated National Resource Centers through the Department of Education Title VI grant program This is a 100% FTE, continuing exempt position. This position will be based on the Stanford campus and will be considered for telecommuting (a hybrid of working on-site and off-site), subject to operational needs. JOB PURPOSE:
The Financial Analyst (FA) will serve as a key SGS Division Office central administrative team member. Reporting to the SGS Division Manager, the FA will provide accounting and
Finance-related support to the SGS Division office and the Division’s 14 centers/programs. The FA will be expected to perform moderately complex financial functions and/or activities related to budgeting and forecasting, requiring specific knowledge, skills, and broad application of policies, precedents, and systems within the context of internal policies and external regulations. This position must exhibit the ability to practice sound judgment
and decision-making, work independently when appropriate, employ effective written & oral
communication, and demonstrate strong attention to detail and respectful relationship
management. The successful candidate will demonstrate:
➢ an understanding and ability to apply financial skills and concepts, including forecasting,
budgeting, and reporting.
➢ strong organizational skills, with keen attention to detail, and successfully followed through promptly.
➢ and strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly and
effectively communicate information to internal/external audiences;
The successful candidate will also exhibit a strong desire to continuously learn new and unfamiliar business topics, policies and procedures as they relate to Division management.
CORE DUTIES :
● Perform structured analysis; conduct data mining; identity, clarify, and investigate
discrepancies and exceptions; proactively develop solutions and processes.
● Maintain, reconcile, review, combine, and validate financial data sets and accounts,
utilizing financial reports, financial databases, and key financial information.
● Contribute to the development of budget, forecasting, and analyses to be used for key
activities or decision-making.
● Run and analyze financial reports from multiple systems; assist in the preparation of
management information reports.
● Resolve issues within the immediate work unit; Perform preliminary analysis, recognize
exceptions and recommend solutions that may require policy changes or the
development of new processes.
● Ensure works comply with complex internal policies and external regulations which may
require interpretation.
● Participate as a member of a project team and contribute to change management
strategy through communication and collaboration with others.
● Serve as a first-line resource to client groups on matters in the work unit.
● Understand and participate in cross-training on core functions in the work area or unit; serve
as a backup to other functions.
● May supervise the day-to-day activities and provide on-the-job coaching and training to
other staff, as needed.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience:
● Bachelorʼs degree and two years of relevant experience or combination of
education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
● Advanced proficiency in business applications, such as Microso Office suite, especially
Excel.
● User knowledge and demonstrated experience of financial systems; the internet and
computer literacy.
● Understanding of Stanford’s financial processes and policies is strongly desired.
● Understanding and ability to apply basic accounting skills and concepts.
● Demonstrated communication skills, including preparing materials for and clearly
and effectively communicating information to internal audiences and client groups.
● Basic project management skills and ability to contribute to a project team.

● Constantly sitting.
● Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks, use the telephone, write by hand, and sort/file paperwork.
● Occasionally stand/walk, li/carry objects weighing 11-20 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
● Routine extended working hours during peak cycles; travel to school/unit sites across
university.
The expected pay range for this position is $72,000 to $ 94,000 per annum. Stanford University
provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably.
