St. Bonaventure University (SBU) is located in the scenic enchanted mountain region in Western New York, approximately 75 miles south of Buffalo, NY. The Position
The dean of arts and sciences is a senior academic leader responsible for providing academic and strategic leadership; developing and articulating a comprehensive vision and a clear mission; fostering innovative practices; advocating for faculty, staff, and students; leading accreditation and assessment processes; and ensuring a vibrant future. Reporting to the provost and vice president for academic affairs, the dean formulates and administers the policies for undergraduate and graduate degrees offered by the academic departments in the School of Arts and Sciences. The dean maintains academic standards and oversees assessment for the School’s academic majors and the University’s general education programs. With a commitment to academic excellence, diversity, and equity, the dean recruits, supervises, and evaluates the School of Arts and Sciences faculty. Working collaboratively with other areas of SBU in recruiting and retaining students, the dean meets regularly with students to resolve academic issues and support their success.
Qualifications
Successful candidates must have earned a terminal degree in an arts or sciences discipline and should have achieved, at minimum, the rank of associate professor. Candidates must have a record of leadership accomplishments at the department level or higher and demonstrate outstanding communication skills emphasizing listening and transparency. Experience with curriculum assessment and development is required, as is a record of commitment to diversity and equity in the recruitment and evaluation of faculty. Budget and planning development and oversight are required. Candidates must be committed to student success and a strong campus presence.
