*This position will close on September 14th, 2023 at 11:59pm.*South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) seeks highly motivated and qualified candidates for the position of Workforce Transition Specialist BFET/Worker Retraining.

As part of a comprehensive team spanning multiple areas of student services, the Workforce Transitions Specialist designs and implements programs and services that utilize the WorkFirst, Opportunity Grant, Basic Food Education Training (BFET), and Worker Retraining programs as a means of assisting current and prospective students to develop resiliency, achieve their educational goals and prepare for entry into the workforce. The Workforce Transitions Specialist reports directly to the Dean of Student Financial Services. A flexible working schedule is required as the position may require some evening and weekend work.

Student Support:

Design and conduct intake orientations to inform students regarding specific Workforce Transitions program requirements and benefits.

Determine student program eligibility for all Workforce programs and provide support for students navigating the workforce programs intake process.

Serve as primary contact for students in BFET and Worker Retraining Programs, including Canvas, email, virtual, phone and in-person support.

Design and conduct outreach efforts and marketing materials that encourage students to apply for and participate in Workforce transitions programs that they may qualify for.

Provide supportive intervention and outreach to students and appropriate referrals to college resources or community agencies for additional information or support.

Work in collaboration with other college and/or Workforce employees to ensure continuous services during trainings, vacations or other unanticipated absences.

Using data driven methods, and by coordinating with other campus resources, develop and implement support systems and interventions designed to promote retention, educational attainment, resiliency, and career readiness of students who are utilizing Workforce programs funding.

Administrative Support:

Perform routine reporting of student compliance and education activity via the eJAS system. Ensure accuracy of relevant data entry by other WorkForce Transitions staff.

Maintain comprehensive participant and related files, for reporting purposes. Ensure appropriate student coding for BFET/Worker Retraining students in the ctcLink.

Provide student eligibility data to office of Student Financial Services in order to assist with coordination of benefits.

Serve as the college’s primary point of contact, DSHS, Department of Commerce, SBCTC, WorkSource, PacMtn and other state agencies with regard to administering the WorkFirst, Opportunity Grant, BFET, and Worker Retraining programs.

Monitor overall fund expenditures for BFET/Worker Retraining programs for the purpose of recommending eligibility for students.

Assist with the college’s compliance with complex rules governing all Workforce Programs.

Assist with grant preparation, quarterly monitoring reviews and surveys, audits and grant renewal process.

Identify opportunities to create updated practices, procedures or efficiencies to the benefit of the college and the students the Workforce programs serve.

Qualifications You Possess

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in related field or program OR equivalent education and professional experience.

Intermediate knowledge of software applications, specifically MS Office suite: Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.

Experience providing support services, advising, counseling, etc., to under-represented student populations to include recruiting, providing direct support services, and maintaining a caseload of students.

Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations, solving problems and making decisions.

Experience contributing to a work environment that embraces diversity and uses diverse perspectives to enhance the attainment of organizational goals.

Demonstrated commitment to high-level customer service and excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work well with others, and function as a team member.

Strong organizational skills, ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks, maintain office confidentiality and accommodate numerous interruptions.

Ability to work some evenings and occasional weekends.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience and/or an understanding of WorkForce programs.
• Experience working with vulnerable populations in higher education or similar setting.
• Experience working in Peoplesoft and/or eJas database systems.
