Description:
The Department of Education and Child Study at Smith College invites applications for an assistant or associate rank tenure position with expertise in disability studies in education and/or special education to begin July 1, 2024. Successful candidates should be prepared to engage actively with diverse students across the liberal arts.
Faculty at Smith teach four courses per year. Teaching responsibilities for this position will regularly include courses in disability studies/special education and inclusive teaching methods. Other courses may be taught depending upon the candidate’s field of specialization.
Candidates should have a strong foundation in disability studies and/or special education and candidates with experience working with individuals with disability in P-12 or other settings that serve individuals with disabilities are encouraged to apply. Qualifications include a doctorate (PhD or Ed.D) by the time of appointment in Education or a related field, a strong commitment to teaching, and evidence of, or potential for, scholarly productivity. Candidates from groups underrepresented in the discipline of education and child study are encouraged to apply.
The Department of Education and Child Study at Smith College engages students in the study of teaching, schooling, educational research, policy and related practices from an interdisciplinary perspective. In addition to the exploration of education as a field of study, we provide a pathway into teaching through our teacher education and licensure programs for undergraduate and graduate students. This position will be expected to work closely with our teacher education program.
The faculty member will also have excellent opportunities to collaborate with the Smith College Campus Laboratory School (K-6), the Smith College Center for Early Childhood Education, the Smith College Museum of Art, and other Centers, departments, and resources on campus.
