North Seattle College is looking to hire a Full-Time Tenure Track Mathematics Faculty member.

Salary Range for this position is $80,659.00 per year for an annual 9-month contract (September – June), with additional increases upon reaching tenure, as well as opportunities for summer teaching and moonlights during the regular academic year.

The North Seattle College Mathematics Department is a highly engaged faculty group energized by improving student outcomes for all students. The department is in the midst of creating more accessible and student-centered options including a guided self-placement tool, co-requisite courses, and an OER homework system. The department collaborates with other academic programs to offer math instruction in multiple languages. While not a required qualification, candidates with the ability to teach math classes in Arabic, Somali, or Spanish are particularly encouraged to apply.

This is a full-time, tenure-track position beginning Fall 2024, in the Math & Sciences division of North Seattle College. Primary teaching responsibilities include pre-college and college level math, applied math, and statistics courses. The Math Department offers a variety of instructional modalities such as synchronous (in-person and virtual), asynchronous (online), and hybrid and supports the extensive use of technology. Class times vary and may include days, evenings, and weekends according to program needs. All full-time faculty are expected to be available to teach in-person classes, as needed. Note that the Seattle Colleges District does not sponsor work visas and does not reimburse relocation expenses incurred by new hires.

What you will be working on:

• Designing and instructing assigned courses in a manner that promotes student engagement and success for a racially and culturally diverse student population spanning a broad range of languages, identities, socioeconomic levels, and educational experiences
• Collaborating with colleagues to identify and close equity gaps, particularly with regard to race and ethnicity towards a goal of increasing student success and completion in mathematics
• Continuously innovating inclusive and active learning experiences (campus, online, hybrid) in response to assessment and evidence/data analysis
• Mentoring students and serving as a peer resource for faculty and staff
• Contributing to a collaborative and innovative department, division, college, and district by serving on committees including in leadership roles and staying actively involved in institutional initiatives
• Keeping current in trends in mathematics education and technology and engaging in professional development activities
• Engaging in curriculum and program development incorporating current educational theories and research, particularly with regard to serving marginalized and minoritized students
• Conducting ongoing curricular development, assessment, and revision that promotes effective learning
• Engaging in shared governance, including district-wide efforts to build an antiracist institution focused on action to advance access, retention, and success for our most marginalized and vulnerable students and employees

What you bring as a candidate: (Any Equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience)

• Master’s degree or higher in mathematics or applied mathematics is required
• History of working collaboratively with colleagues, teams, and other stakeholders to support educational growth and community building

• History of providing high quality innovative instruction in pre-college and college level math, applied math, and or statistics in highly diverse settings
• Ability to communicate with students, faculty, and staff in a manner that supports student success
• Ability to create or modify curriculum that supports diverse student populations and utilizes a variety of evidence-based active learning strategies, modalities, instructional technologies, and teaching methods
