Lab is focused on research and initiatives aimed at understanding and intervening on the syndemic of HIV, substance use, and co-occurring

Under the direct supervision of the on-site supervisor at San Ysidro Health, a federally qualified health center,
with additional direction from the PATH Research Coordinator, the temporary (April 2024 – January 2025) Peer Navigator will provide support
to participants living with HIV who are enrolled in the “PATH” (Peers plus mobile App for Treatment in HIV) study funded by the NIH and led
by Dr. Pitpitan and other investigators at San Diego State University (SDSU) and UC San Diego (UCSD). The role of the peer navigator is to
be a bridge between providers and persons living with HIV to facilitate the medical and psychosocial care of the clients. There are three
primary functions of the peer navigator: 1) the peer navigator will support their clients by providing one-on-one peer support to improve
clients’ retention in HIV care and AntiRetroviral Therapy (ART) adherence, 2) the peer navigator will communicate and engage with their
clients through the use of a web-based application, or “app” accessed through a smartphone or computer (e.g., using the app to setup
notifications and medical appointment reminders for their clients, send and receive direct messages from clients, and monitor clients’
reports of their own ART use and their other activities on the app); and 3) the peer navigator will electronically track activities within
the app and complete written documentation to regularly report on work-related activities, including participant outreach activities. The
