Position Summary
Reporting to the Executive Assistant to the Vice President for Research and Innovation and supporting both the Associate Vice President for Innovation and the Associate Vice President for Research Advancement, the Administrative Coordinator for Innovation and Research Advancement will work closely with the Event Coordinator, providing administrative and programmatic support within the Division of Research and Innovation. This position will serve as a liaison between the Associate Vice Presidents and other University officials, deans, faculty, staff, and students.
Program responsibilities will include but are not limited to the administrative oversight of faculty, post-doc, and graduate training workshops, group travel arrangements, faculty recognition events (e.g., early career awardees, book recognition), and institutional outreach events (e.g., Women in STEM, Rising Stars, targeted hire, industry collaboration seminars) The Administrative Coordinator coordinates and/or performs highly sensitive and confidential tasks on behalf of the Associate Vice Presidents for assisting with the goal of increasing faculty success in their research, scholarship, and creative activity (RSCA) endeavors as well as increasing undergraduate student involvement with RSCA efforts on campus.
With a high degree of autonomy, the incumbent coordinates meetings, budgeting, projects, activities, makes inquiries and replies for and on behalf of the Associate Vice Presidents. The position requires the highest level of written and verbal communication skill, professionalism, and tact, as well as a working knowledge of the University, CSU, and State of California infrastructure, policies, and procedures.
This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.
Department Summary
The Division of Research and Innovation is responsible for the review and approval of all proposals for external funding of grants and contracts, research assurances, regulatory compliance/integrity, oversight of regulatory and research promotion committees, including direct line reporting by the CEO of the SDSU Research Foundation. In addition, the Vice President for Research and Innovation plays a lead role in the strategic planning of the SDSU Mission Valley Innovation District, including identification and development of relationships with entities who may be interested in participating in public/private partnerships.

Education and Experience
Entry to this classification requires a fully functional knowledge of and skill in standard office procedures and practices, as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures. Additionally, incumbents are expected to have a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and be able to clearly communicate orally and in writing. Some positions may require a knowledge of business mathematics beyond basic arithmetic. The ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages is also a prerequisite.
These entry qualifications would normally be obtained through a high school program, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents combined with several years of related office work experience.

Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $3,800 per month.
Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,505 – $5,508 per month.
