Working Title: IT Support Tech 3
Position Grade: 11
Position Summary
This position works closely with staff,
faculty, and students to support the computer needs of the Department of
Geography and Environmental Studies, including its computer teaching
lab. The IT Support Tech 3 works with diverse computing
hardware, including servers, networks, personal computers,
printers/photocopiers, and field equipment. Under limited supervision, the IT Tech Support 3 installs, maintains, tests, and repairs computer hardware and software, and executes
various technical tasks, such as imaging the computer lab units,
managing a virtual desktop infrastructure on a server, and configuring
network architectures. This position utilizes
advanced technical knowledge to plan and lead the implementation of
technical solutions, in classroom and office settings. The
IT Tech Support 3 provides technical leadership, and resolves problems
for people with widely varying knowledge of computer use. This
position also assists users in assessing information system needs, in
formulating funding requests or proposals, and in providing basic
training in the use of new technologies. The IT Tech Support 3 supervises student employees and manages operations for a 25-seat computer teaching lab. Finally, the IT Tech Support 3 maintains, updates, and audits records of software licenses, departmental equipment and supplies, and other matters.

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Higher education and/or experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
* Ability to gain functional knowledge of new and/or unfamiliar computer hardware and software.
* Ability to manage and maintain records for tracking computer equipment and supplies, and for certifying compliance with software vendors.
* Ability to diagnose and document computer problems
