The College of Arts and Media (CAM) at Sam Houston
State University (SHSU) is a hub of creativity and innovation, offering various programs in art, dance, mass communication, music, and
theatre and musical theatre.
The CAM Marketing and Communications Team is a vibrant group of professionals and student
interns dedicated to elevating the college’s reputation and engaging a wide audience. We encompass talented writers, designers,
photographers, videographers, social media and marketing experts, and content creators, all united by our passion for promoting the College
of Arts and Media and its vibrant academic community.

practical knowledge and skills to transition into the professional world successfully. With multifaceted expertise encompassing compelling

Reporting to the Director of
Strategic Initiatives and Operations, the CAM Communications Manager position performs moderately complex managerial work developing,
creating, and executing marketing and communication strategies for the College of Arts and Media (CAM). As an integral part of the CAM
Marketing and Communications team, you will play a significant role in managing the promotion of public events, exhibits, performances,
projects, and activities, utilizing a various set of channels, including social media, multi-channel marketing, advertising, and crafting
comprehensive marketing and communication plans for our academic units. In addition, this role provides mentorship, practical guidance, and
valuable work experience in a real-world setting to student interns, contributing to their professional growth and development. The ideal
candidate has a strong background in creating and executing marketing campaigns and strategies.
Educational & Experience Requirement
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communication,
public relations, or a related field. Two years of experience in marketing, communications, or a related field. A combination of education,
experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.
Nature & Purpose of Position
Engages in moderately complex managerial
tasks, focusing on the development, creation, and execution of marketing and communication strategies for the College of Arts and Media
(CAM). Directs the promotion of public events, exhibits, performances, projects, and activities through various channels, including social
media, multi-channel marketing, and advertising. Formulates comprehensive marketing and communication plans for the academic
units.
Primary Responsibilities
Manages the marketing
and communications processes to promote events and activities within the College of Arts and Media (CAM), collaborating with academic units.
Oversees the activities of the communication staff, establishing goals and objectives, and developing and approving schedules, priorities,
and standards for achieving these goals. Plans, implements, coordinates, and evaluates policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with
university branding guidelines, document workflow, and deadlines. Identifies areas of needed change and makes recommendations to improve
operations within the marketing and communications function. Coordinates and evaluates activities within the division, monitoring budget
expenditures and ensuring efficient resource utilization. Works closely with key University stakeholders, including Integrated Marketing and
Communications, to align strategies with university goals. Provides occasional assistance with event support and performs other duties as
assigned. Collaborates with the Director, leadership, staff, and university partners to formulate and execute marketing and communication
strategies, goals, and objectives aimed at showcasing and elevating the college’s public events and activities. Leads the development
and maintenance of all college communications, encompassing emails, news articles, website content, programs, brochures, blog posts, social
media, press releases, advertising, and other materials and initiatives. Fosters seamless and effective communication efforts across the
University by working closely with the Integrated Marketing and Communications division and college communications representatives. Drives
the creation of high-quality content in various engaging formats, ensuring alignment with the SHSU brand. Offers writing and editing support
to college staff and leadership. Mentors and supervises student interns involved in various communication tasks, including social media,
copywriting, website development, and others as required. Establishes and monitors metrics to assess the success of communication
initiatives, preparing comprehensive reports for the Director, leadership, and relevant stakeholders. Evaluates the effectiveness of
campaigns and projects, seeks feedback from the Director and stakeholders, and implements improvements in future communication projects.

Requires a solid understanding of local, state, and federal laws and the ability to manage business
functions. Involves communication with other university departments, personnel, and external agencies. Demands detailed knowledge of
university infrastructure, policies, and procedures, as well as a thorough understanding of office systems. Requires problem-solving skills
to address operational issues and suggest process improvements. Necessitates creative problem-solving, critical thinking, and collaboration
on multiple projects with professionals, administrators, and support staff in a fast-paced environment. Possesses exceptional interpersonal,
oral, and written communication skills, organizational abilities, and self-driven qualities. Demonstrated expertise includes a successful
track record in creating and executing marketing campaigns and strategies, particularly in the digital and social media landscape. This
individual is a natural collaborator, enthusiastic about working with both students and faculty. Proficiency in synthesizing information
from academic and non-academic sources, adaptability to changing priorities, and effective management of multiple projects with competing
timelines are essential. The role involves demonstrated effectiveness in teamwork and the supervision of team members, along with
exceptional editorial and copywriting skills. Proficiency in meeting deadlines and successfully concluding projects is a key attribute. Up
to 20% of this position, over the fiscal year during off-peak periods, may be performed remotely as determined by the supervisor.
