Educational and Experience Requirement:
Analyst I – Bachelor’s degree with a major in computer science or related field from an accredited institution. One year relevant experience. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.
Analyst II – Bachelor’s degree with a major in computer science or related field from an accredited institution. Three years relevant experience in directly related field. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.
Nature & Purpose of Position:
Analyst I – Work involves assisting in the development, implementation, maintenance, and monitoring of a local area network or wide area network. Perform moderately complex work.
Analyst II – Work involves coordinating the development, implementation, and maintenance of a local area network or wide area network. Perform complex network administration.
Primary Responsibilities:
Analyst I – Assists in maintaining the local area network or wide area network, cable and hub installations, and inventories. Assists in maintaining the network’s physical and logical structures and in installing and testing hardware and software. Assists in performance tuning and capacity planning activities to enhance the performance of the network resources and in maintaining network support software. Assists in or conducts product evaluations of upgraded or new hardware and software and identifies strengths, weaknesses, and potential benefits to the agency. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Analyst II – Maintains the network’s physical and logical structures, including network connections. Maintains network support software, analyzes user support statistics, and recommends appropriate measures. Installs, tests, and maintains network hardware and software. Prepares and analyzes statistics on network utilization and availability. Performs tuning and capacity planning activities to enhance the performance of the network resources. Conducts product evaluations of upgraded or new hardware and software and recommends enhancements to network facilities. Assists in maintaining the local area network or wide area network, cable and hardware installations, inventories, and other related duties. May train others. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Other Specifications:
Analyst I – Requires a demonstrated ability to establish congenial work relationships and to communicate effectively within department and workgroup. This is a security sensitive position and requires a DPS fingerprint background check and will need to adhere to the Texas CJIS Systems Access Policy.
Analyst II – Requires a demonstrated ability to establish congenial work relationships and to communicate effectively within department and workgroup as well as throughout university. May interpret and implement complex policies affecting the department level. Work requires considerable judgment and sound reasoning to solve department and division problems. Work requires attention to detail as errors may be potentially serious. This is a security sensitive position and requires a DPS fingerprint background check and will need to adhere to the Texas CJIS Systems Access Policy.
